Evgeny Plushenko is the winner of the 2006 Winter Olympics, a multiple world figure skating champion and an incredibly strong-minded person. Yevgeny received his last medal during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
The beginning of the way
Evgeny Viktorovich Plushenko was born in the village of Solnechny in the Khabarovsk Territory on November 3, 1982. When the boy was 4 years old, his parents moved to Volgograd.
As a child, Eugene was often ill, so the doctors advised him to play more sports in order to strengthen the immune system.
In February 1987, the parents sent Zhenya to the figure skating section. At first, he trained under the guidance of coach Tatyana Skala. And at the age of 7 he already received his first prize - "Crystal Skate". Surely the boy could not even imagine then how many more victories awaited him in the future.
Among the other young skaters, Plushenko was distinguished by an iron will and incredible faith in her abilities. Already at the age of 11, he performed five triple jumps without much effort, which is not always possible even for experienced athletes.
At the age of 12, Evgeny began training in St. Petersburg. The first years he lived there completely alone - huddled in a small room in a communal apartment. He had to be torn between endless training and school. Then his mother managed to get over to the northern capital.
The first results of working with the new coach were not long in coming - at the age of 14, Zhenya Plushenko became the youngest champion in single figure skating among juniors and moved to the senior category.
Victories and defeats
Further in the career of Evgeny there were many competitions: the European and Russian championships, the Grand Prix, the world championship, and so on. In many of them he won prizes.
One of Plushenko's main competitors in 2002 was the Russian figure skater Alexei Yagudin.
In 2006, during the Winter Olympics in Turin, Evgeny finally managed to fulfill his old dream and win a gold medal.
After the Olympics, the athlete decided to take a break to recover from numerous injuries. At this time, he toured with ice shows around the world, led some projects on television, took part in the political life of the Northern capital, took the stage during Eurovision 2008 with Dima Bilan and Edwin Marton.
In 2009, Plushenko decided to return to the big sport. In 2010, at the Vancouver Olympics, he won silver. In 2014, he won gold at the Sochi Olympics in the team competition, but due to health problems, he refused to perform in the single program and announced his retirement.
Whether he will return to big sport, and how many more of his victories and performances the audience will enjoy, it remains to be seen.
