Vitaly Davydov is a retired famous and titled hockey player of the Soviet era. At one time, the man became the Olympic champion 3 times and won the championship in nine world championships.
Biography
The life of the future athlete began in 1939 in the capital of the USSR. From childhood, the boy was attracted to street sports, in particular hockey. Already in adolescence, Vitaly skillfully performed feints on ice, this sport took up most of the guy's free time. There were no people associated with sports in the family of a novice hockey player. My father worked as a driver, and my mother devoted her life to accounting. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, Vitaly's father died. Even an older brother named Eduard chose to pursue an economics degree and later became an accountant.
The young man got into amateur sports quite by accident: an experienced hockey coach noticed his brilliant sports skills. From street sports, Vitaly first joined the youth team of Dynamo. Upon reaching the age of majority, he became a striker in the main team of the club.
Professional sports career
Having become the official player of the main roster of Dynamo, the initially talented hockey player played the role of a striker, a few months later he was transferred to the defensive flank of the distant line. Despite the fact that the ambitious young man did not want to give up positions, he got used to the new position and in the future did not want to leave it, since the most outstanding achievements of the athlete are associated with it.
Davydov spent more than five hundred matches for this squad, several times received recognition as the best player in the defense of the Soviet Union. But there was not a single championship, the team took second and third places many times.
After several years of playing within his own country, an already experienced athlete received an invitation to the USSR national team. The guy did not refuse and in 1964 he played for the Motherland at the Olympic Games, which were held in Sweden. The skillful player made a significant contribution to the victory of the team, and the team confidently won the gold medal.
During the break between the first and second Olympics, Davydov took part in the world ice hockey championships several times. Together with the national team, he won the championship nine times and in 1967 at a tournament in Austria for the first time in his life he was able to become the best defender of the planet, this title at that time was considered very respectful in sports circles.
Then twice more Vitaly became the Olympic champion, showing at that time just phenomenal performance. The national team of the Soviet Union in the 60s was at the peak of its strength, there were practically no teams that could withstand the "Red Machine". The contribution of the world-class defender has never gone unnoticed, the team could always count on a strong defense from Davydov.
Coaching career
When the hockey player was 33 years old, he decided to end his career as an athlete. Later he coached his native team "Dynamo", several times tried himself in foreign organizations. As a coach, he did not have significant achievements. In the early 2000s, the successful and titled Vitaly was awarded several awards for his invaluable contribution to the development of national sports. At the moment, he is acting as head of Dynamo.
