Carier start

On New Year's Eve, December 31, 1974, in the city of Lancaster, a boy was born, who in the future was to destroy the cliches and "common places" of the fantasy genre and thanks to this become famous throughout the world. During his school years, Joe Abercrombie, by his own admission, devoted most of his time to computer games, reading science fiction and drawing maps of non-existent lands, which made his studies recede into the background. And yet, after graduation, he managed to enter the University of Manchester, at the Faculty of Psychology, which later, apparently, helped Joe develop such vivid ambiguous characters, such as the Inquisitor Glokta, or the barbarian philosopher Logen Nine-Finger.

After graduating from university, Joe moved to London and got a job in television, but soon left to become a freelance video editor. Among his works are clips of Barry White, Coldplay and The Killers, concerts, awards ceremonies and even TV shows. Well, Joe decided to devote his free time to the novel, which was destined to become a world bestseller.

Creation

In 2004, Joe completed a novel in the genre of "black fantasy", which received the Russian translation of the title "Blood and Iron". Joe set the goal of the novel to rethink the genre clichés, and judging by the way the public met the novel, he did it. Inspired by his success, the author writes two more novels, which became the second and third parts of the trilogy, now known as "The First Law". The author himself said well about the content of the trilogy: "an epic mixture of war, love, magic and adrenaline."

The novels of the newly minted literary star were twice named "Books of the Year" and were twice nominated for the John W. Campbell Award in the category "Best New Writer".

In 2009, Joe released a new novel called "Better Serve Cold", which Joe himself dubbed "a fantasy thriller" and which was also a great success, but two years later, "Heroes" finally consolidated Joe's status as a master of fantasy and took third a place on the Sunday Times Hardcover Bestseller List. The next fantasy western novel, Red Country, made it to bestseller lists in both Europe and America, receiving positive reviews from a reputable publication like the New York Times.

Sources of his inspiration, Joe, oddly enough, calls the police thrillers J. Ellroy and the television series The Sopranos, The Wire, and Battlestar Galactica.

Personal life

The only thing known about the writer's personal life is that he has a wife, her name is Lou, and they have two daughters, Eve and Grace, as well as a son named Teddy. Joe currently lives with his family in Bath, Somerset and writes books that he says he would like to read himself.
