Joe Dassin (Joseph Ira Dassin) was born on November 5, 1938 in New York. The boy's father, Jules Dassin, worked as an actor in the Jewish theater. The mother of the future singer, Beatrice Lohner-Dassin, was a violinist. Theatrical activity of Joe Dassin's father was short - he soon became seriously interested in cinema, got a job as an assistant with the famous Alfred Hitchcock and became a film director.
Joe lived in New York until 1940, and only then moved to Los Angeles. Despite the good financial situation of the family, the boy began to earn money at a young age. He spent his free time with his beloved younger sisters, and was also fond of reading. Joe Dassin spent his first earnings on the purchase of the American universal encyclopedia Britannica, subsequently purchasing all of its volumes.
The future singer lived in Los Angeles for almost 10 years. In 1949, his father was put on the "black list of sympathizers of the communist movement", as a result of which the entire Dassin family had to flee to France. Joe fell in love with this country, but a year later the boy's parents sent him to study at a Swiss college.
In 1951, Joe Dassin went to continue his studies in Italy, two years later - to Geneva, and soon received a bachelor's degree in Grenoble. Throughout the years of study, Joe was able to fluently master three languages, fell in love with swimming and skiing.
In 1955, Joe Dassin's parents divorced, which affected the emotional state of the future singer. Then he returns to America to study medicine at the University of Michigan. After 3 years, student Joe Dassin realized that he could not stand the sight of blood, and was transferred to the Faculty of Ethnology, which he graduated with a master's degree, and for some time after he even lectured at the same university.
Back in his student years, Joe Dassin discovered his musical talent, thanks to which he began to sing in a cafe, earning at that time $ 50 for performances. Later he returned to France and decided to conquer this country with his voice.

Joe began his first creative steps by performing folk songs, but in the 60s he thought to change his repertoire. Joe Dassin rarely wrote his own songs, preferring to perform cover versions of foreign famous hits. At this time, the singer meets Jacques Ple, thanks to the joint work with whom, the world heard the songs "Bip-Bip" and "Guantanamera".

Christine could not come to terms with the frenzied popularity of her husband, constant employment and the singer's fans. The marriage was accompanied by misunderstandings and scandals, as a result of which, in 1980, Joe Dassin filed for divorce. From this marriage, the singer had two children.
In 1980, due to a too busy work schedule, the singer's health was very shaken. On August 20 of the same year, Joe Dassin died of a heart attack.
