All the children of the Soviet Union knew the poems and fairy tales of this poet without the slightest exaggeration. The story about the fire in the cat's house is easy to remember after the first reading. Samuel Marshak also wrote a lot for adult readers.

Childhood and youth

Today, the upbringing of the younger generation is carried out only in the family. However, those times are still fresh in my memory when the children listened to the poems that Samuil Yakovlevich Marshak wrote for them. From the pen of this wise man came not just literary creations. All his poems are essentially a dialogue between a child and an older friend. He teaches his little companion to understand beauty and remember kindness. Words and images are selected in such a sequence that the little reader can understand them. Understood, introduced and remembered for the rest of my life.

The future poet and critic was born on November 3, 1887 in the family of an employee. Parents lived at that time in the famous city of Voronezh. My father worked as a technologist at a soap factory. The mother was engaged in raising children and running a household. In addition to Samuel, five more children were growing up in the house. The head of the family was invited to different cities to organize the production of soap. Eventually the Marshaks settled in St. Petersburg. In this city Samuel graduated from high school. Within the walls of this educational institution, the teacher of literature instilled in the young man a love of poetry and work with words.

Creative way

The first publications of Marshak's works are dated 1907. Five years later, already as an experienced writer, Samuel went on a tour of the Middle East. Together with a group of comrades, he visited Turkey and Palestine, Greece and Syria. Marshak regularly submitted reports on his impressions to the editorial offices of the Universal Gazette and the Blue Journal. The reporter spent two pre-war years in London studying the history of English literature. It was here that Marshak began to translate Shakespeare's sonnets, poetry and prose by other famous writers.

During the war years he lived in Petrograd and was involved in organizing assistance to refugee children. After the 1917 revolution, fleeing hunger, he moved to the Kuban. Here, in the city of Krasnodar, Samuil Yakovlevich created one of the first children's theaters, for which he himself wrote plays. In 1922 he returned to St. Petersburg and was actively engaged in creative and pedagogical work. Soon there were published books for children "The House That Jack Built", "The Tale of a Stupid Mouse", "Children in a Cage". A children's book publishing house began to operate under his leadership.
