Papua New Guinea is one of the states of the British Commonwealth, located in the Pacific Ocean relatively close to Australia. It is a constitutional monarchy headed by Queen Elizabeth II of England, whose supreme legislative body is the National Parliament. The elections to it began on June 23, 2012, and were supposed to end on the 28th, but the deadlines had to be extended for several reasons, one of which is very nontrivial - the cannibalism of voters.

Why the elections in Papua New Guinea were extended

Unlike most states, elections in Papua New Guinea are never held on the same day - this is due to the fact that almost 4.6 million voters live on six hundred islands. The urban population in this country is less than 20%, and many rural polling stations are located in the highlands of the islands, which have to be reached by helicopter. Therefore, the election of 109 members of the National Parliament in the country of the Papuans and Melanesians is always a difficult and slow process. And this year they have slowed down even more due to reasons both of a natural nature (in several provinces there was a flood), and because of attempts to interfere in the process of expression of will on the part of some of the nearly 3,500 candidates.

And in several districts of Madang province, the country's largest island, the voting process was stopped due to the fact that voters were afraid to go out, fearing an attack by cannibalistic sectarians. The police arrested 29 people who are accused of killing seven local residents. All those arrested are members of a sect that began its activities with the fight against various sorcerers who deceived sick people. However, then the fighters for justice believed in their special ability to identify sorcerers among ordinary people and set the goal of destroying them all. And to strengthen these abilities, new cultists began to eat fragments of the bodies of victims. According to information published in the press, this local community of cannibals totals about five hundred people and is headed by the head of one of the communities. The police have not arrested the head of the cannibals yet, but there is a 13-year-old teenager among those arrested. Twelve arrested will be charged with first-degree murder, and all members of the sect are suspected of cannibalism.
