The future mixed martial arts fighter was born in the village of Goksuv (Dagestan) on November 4, 1986. Rustam dreamed of a career as a fighter as a child. But there were no sports clubs nearby. The boy practiced punches on a punching bag, which he himself made from an old bag.
Rustam received his education at the motor-road college of Makhachkala. In the same period, he began to seriously engage in martial arts. His first mentor was Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. In a short time, Rustam achieved high sports results, becoming the world and national champion in combat sambo.

Khabilov held his first meeting in the ring in a mixed style in 2007, defeating Bagautdin Abasov. In subsequent years, Rustam managed to win eleven victories in a row.
