Madonna may be banned from entering Russia if she is found guilty of inciting religious hatred. The Investigative Committee is conducting an inquiry into complaints after the singer's concert in St. Petersburg.
On August 9, 2012, the famous singer Madonna gave a concert in St. Petersburg as part of her world tour in support of the album "M. D. N. A". Often, her concerts look provocative in the eyes of the public. And the performance in Russia was no exception. More than 150 claims have already been filed with the Moscow District Court of St. Petersburg regarding compensation for moral damage from the event.
Firstly, at the concert, the singer spoke in support of the girls from the Pussy Riot group, now convicted, and then awaiting a court verdict for a punk prayer held in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. She came out with Pussy Riot on her back and said she was praying for the band members.
She also danced on the cross. And this, according to some, falls under Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, as a criminal offense related to inciting religious hatred. In this regard, Orthodox activists accuse the singer of disrespect for the Christian religion.
The public organization Parental Control in St. Petersburg complained to the Investigative Committee. According to representatives of the organization, Madonna was promoting homosexuality in the presence of minors, which violated the laws of the northern capital. This is due to the fact that at the concert she handed out pink bracelets, then asked the audience to put them on and raise their hands up, thereby demonstrating support for sex minorities.
In addition to the public organization "Parental Control", the party "New Great Russia" and the "Trade Union of Russian Citizens" expressed their claims about the concert. They filed lawsuits in court demanding to recover 333 million rubles from the organizers of the concert and the singer herself.
If Madonna is found guilty in accordance with the complaints, her entry to Russia will be closed. Now everything depends on whether the St. Petersburg investigators will find corpus delicti in the artist's actions.
