From the biography of Artemy Lebedev

The future designer and businessman was born in the capital of the USSR on February 13, 1975. His father is the philologist Andrei Lebedev, his mother is the writer Tatyana Tolstaya. On the maternal side, Lebedev is the great-grandson of the writer Alexei Tolstoy. Artemy did not attend a nursery school or a kindergarten. Initially he studied at Moscow schools. Subsequently, the parents moved to Baltimore (USA), where Tatyana Tolstaya taught Russian literature. After studying for a year at an American school, Artemy became disillusioned with this country and returned to the Soviet Union. From the age of 16, Lebedev lived alone.

After graduating from the humanitarian class of the capital's comprehensive school, Artemy became a student at the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow State University. However, he did not attend lectures, so he was expelled from the second year. As a result, Lebedev never received a higher education. But in his field of activity, he may well give a solid head start to any professional.

Designer career

A noteworthy fact: already at the age of seven, Artemy showed a penchant for design art, he loved to make logos from the first letters of his friends and acquaintances. In those distant years, hardly anyone could seriously assume that in the future, design will become the main business of life for Artemy.

Lebedev received his design education, by his own admission, from Arkady Troyanker, who was the art director of Itogi and Yezhenedelny Zhurnal. In an interview, Artemy has repeatedly stated that he never liked the state of affairs with design in Russia. And that he is making a lot of efforts to correct this situation.

In 1992, Lebedev, together with a partner, founded the A-Kvadrat studio, where he worked for a very short time. After a while, he created an independent studio "Artographica". Here he was engaged in the creation of magazine and book products. At the same time, Artemy was one of the leaders of the MacCentre company.

In the mid-90s, Lebedev created the WebDesign studio, which later became known as the Art. Lebedev Studio. This is one of the largest Russian web design studios. As a rule, the clients of the Artemiy studio are very wealthy and successful people.

In recent years, Lebedev has regularly visited different parts of Russia, lectured, held master classes on industrial and information design.

Artemy began to work in industrial design in 2001. He was motivated by a desire to expand the scope of his creative achievements. His most famous projects in this area are the Samsung microwave oven and the Optimus keyboard, highly praised by experts.

Blogger Artemy Lebedev

In 2001, Artemy started his own blog on the LiveJournal platform. A dozen years later, his online blog was ranked fourth in the overall ranking. The blog had almost 6,000 posts, to which more than 3 million comments were left.

When Lebedev was asked why he chose this platform for blogging, he replied that there was the greatest excitement in LJ at that time.

During the existence of the blog, its author has been attacked more than once. In 2012, he was sharply criticized by Orthodox activist Dmitry Enteo for defiling religious feelings. Prior to that, Aeroflot had filed a lawsuit against Lebedev. The basis for this appeal was an entry in an online diary, where the author accused the company of theft. In the final, the court ordered Lebedev to remove from the blog materials with negative assessments of Aeroflot.

In 2008, Artemy's blog was blocked. The reason was the publication of an image of a half-naked girl, who, according to the site's conflict commission, was a minor. After a while, however, the lock was lifted.

Since the fall of 2008, Lebedev has become a representative of the shareholders of the company that owns the domestic segment of LiveJournal.

Participation in design projects

Since 2009, Lebedev began to cooperate with the Perm Design Development Center, and later became the art director of this project. He also expressed a desire to become the "chief designer" of Omsk and even tried to launch an election program.

Lebedev was on the jury of the competition for a number of creative projects on the website of the President of the Russian Federation. He took part in the creation of logos for the Kaluga region, Yaroslavl, Odessa and Perm. Artemy took part in a major project to improve road signs in the capital of Ukraine, as well as in Russian Tyumen. In the last project, he achieved the creation of a pedestrian crossing equipped with lighting. Lebedev also took part in the creation of the so-called design code for the streets of the capital of Russia and invented the Advertising Tree for Perm.

Artemy Lebedev and Marat Gelman announced a controversial competition to develop a sign about offending the religious feelings of believers. Orthodox activists responded to this advertising move with a lawsuit in court. The anti-religious position of the Russian designer is widely known.

Lebedev categorically opposes charity in relation to pensioners and sick people. Instead, he suggests investing in road construction.

Lebedev's personal life is as turbulent as his social activities. However, the Russian designer and businessman prefers to hide this area of his life from the journalistic eye. For this reason, apparently, he was at one time considered a misogynist. However, it is now known that Artemy was married several times. One of his former wives was the journalist Marina Litvinovich. Artemy Lebedev is the father of four children.
