There are actresses who easily and simply entered their profession, because they knew exactly what they wanted and were preparing for an acting career from early childhood. It is to this category of people that the German actress Nina Hoss belongs, who from the age of seven knew that she would perform in the theater.
True, at this age she took part only in radio shows. However, her mom was an actress, and that was enough to make her fall in love with the theater once and for all.
Biography
Nina Hoss was born in Stuttgart in 1975. When my mother was a director, and then director of the Württemberg State Theater, she often took Nina with her, and the girl from childhood knew all the intricacies of the troupe's life, the peculiarities of preparing performances and other things unknown to the audience.
Nina's father was a prominent figure in Stuttgart society: Willie Hoss was part of the group that founded the Green Party and was part of its parliament. He worked for the Daimler-Benz concern and was a valued employee. As Nina grew up, he attracted her to work in the party, and she often advocated for the green policy.
Nina's debut at the theater took place in 1989: she played a significant role in the play "I Love and Don't Love" at the theater of her hometown. She was still a schoolgirl, but even then it was noticeable that she had talent and she already mastered the basics of acting.
In order to better prepare herself for the stage, Nina studied piano, vocals, and drama. She also had a talent for organizing: she herself could easily compose a concert script and assemble a group to implement this idea.
After leaving school, Nina decided that it was time to start an independent life and make her dream come true: to get an acting education. She knew that in Berlin there is a very good theater school named after Ernst Busch - there the future actress went. There she realized that she had made the right choice, and that the stage was her favorite and most important occupation.
Film career
Hoss began acting in films when she was still a student at the theater school. Her first role was in the film And No One Will Cry for Me (1996). Nina perfectly coped with the role, although she studied to be a theater actress. As it turns out, working on set can be fun and enjoyable too. On the whole, this film turned out to be successful, it was appreciated by both viewers and critics. And he brought Nina an acquaintance with producer Bernd Eichinger, who had a fairly significant weight in German cinema.
Eichinger had just produced The Rosemary Lovers and had Hoss play the lead role. Despite the fact that it was a remake of the 1958 tape, everything turned out as well as possible. Nina played the role of Rosemary, who made a living with her body and had high-ranking lovers. The story about Rosemary Nitribitt aroused great interest of the audience, everyone discussed the picture. And Nina realized that she had become a celebrity.
For this film in 1997, Hoss received the Golden Camera for Best Debut. However, the student did not fall ill with star fever, but continued her studies at school. At that time, she began to realize her talents on the stages of various Berlin theaters, where she was invited. These were mostly classical productions, which were useful for honing the acting skills.
Since 1998, Hoss has been a member of the German Theater troupe. However, she simultaneously acted in films and worked on television. For her excellent work in cinema, she has repeatedly received awards: in 2007 - "Silver Bear" for her role in the film "Yella" (2007), in 2012 she was awarded the European Film Academy for her role in the film "Barbara" (2012), in 2016 as part of the actors of the series "Homeland" won the Actors Guild Award.
The Salzburg Festival is traditionally held in Germany, and Nina Hoss was twice lucky to take part in the opening of this solemn event. The celebration, as a rule, is watched by millions of TV viewers, and participation in such a grandiose action has further increased the popularity of the actress.
There are many films in her filmography that deserve attention. For example, the painting "Jerichov" (2008), which was presented at the Venice IFF as a competitive work.
In the same year, she played in the scandalous film "Nameless - Woman in Berlin", in which Russian actors also played: Yevgeny Sidikhin, Roman Gribkov, Samvel Muzhikyan, Viktor Zhalsanov and others. The film caused an ambiguous assessment of viewers from different countries, because according to the plot of the picture, the Soviet soldiers who occupied Berlin in 1945 did nothing but rape German women. In Russia, the painting is banned from showing, because in every family the pain of loss from the victims of the Second World War still lives. And to portray an entire army as rapists is at least unreasonable. As an epigraph to a critical article about the film, one of the journalists took a quote from the speech of a German politician: “If the Russians had caused us only a small part of what we did to them, then there would not be a single German left in Berlin”.
Nina received another Bavarian film award for her role as Corinne Hoffmann in the film White Masai (2005). Finding herself in a place alien to her, among strangers and unusual customs, Corinna finds the strength to fight for the love of Lemalian, a representative of an African tribe.
Personal and social life
Nina Hoss takes an active part in the activities of the Green Party and twice even participated in the election of the Federal President as a delegate from the party.
Also in 2011, she was invited to become a jury member of the 61st International Berlin Film Festival, and the actress did an excellent job with a difficult job.
As for her personal life, Nina met her future husband Hans-Jochen Wagner on the set. They studied together at a theater school, they were nodding acquaintances, but mutual feelings did not arise immediately. Now the family of Nina and Hans lives in Berlin, they have no children yet.
