Childhood and youth
The girl was born in the small border town of Gorle between Belgium and the Netherlands on 21 February 1981. No one even thought that a tiny pretty girl with freckles would later grow up as a Valkyrie.
The girl grew up with her younger sister Irene. Both had a musical streak. Irene has also chosen a musical career. Outwardly, the sisters are remarkably similar.
Flor's character was tempered by constant moving. The girl had enough problems with her classmates. One of them was height, the other was the manner of dress. Flor chose clothes that were particularly rude on purpose.
The father of the future singer admired music. He taught his eldest daughter to play the guitar. Soon, the girl began to compose songs herself. True, later there were changes in her tastes.
Jansen's favorite bands are Pantera, Paradise Lost, Machine Head and Moonspell. The future celebrity called Mandylion of the musical collective The Gathering her favorite album.
There were a lot of hobbies and hobbies in Flor's life. Horses have become one of her affections. She even helped work in the stable. But the girl devoted all her free time to music.
Musical career
Flor, after the selection, took part in the school musical. Her first listeners were classmates with teachers. At the age of sixteen, Jansen joined the death metal band Apocalypse. The band later changed its name to After Forever.
A funny coincidence was that the names of one of the founders of the group, Mark and the new soloist, were the same. At the same time, the young people were not anyone to each other.
The vocalist, barely eighteen years old, from the very first album attracted attention with an amazing mix of rock vocals and classical voice production.
The aspiring singer was well aware that a passion for music was becoming a profession, and this required an appropriate education. In 1999, Flor entered the Tilburg Rock Academy, where she studied for three years.
She devoted a year to opera singing. At this time, the girl began to master musical instruments. She learned to play the violin, piano and flute.
A little time passed, and Jansen decided to become a vocal teacher. She created the Wanna be a Star courses. They could be visited by those who wanted to learn to sing. The Valkyrie continues to be engaged in the chosen case at the present time. She conducts master classes in all cities of Europe.
Sometimes the creative person became too crowded in the group. Her talent was looking for a way out. The result was the idea of collaborating with Ayreon to create the Universal Migrator album.
New facets of talent
The singer showed not only singing talent. She successfully coped with writing music and lyrics. At the same time, they met Nightwish, who took part in a joint tour with After Forever.
In 2008, the group was on the verge of collapse. Floor began to have difficulties with vocals. The musicians froze the project. The driving force behind the team Sander Gommans said he no longer had the strength to work.
True, the Ayreon album was released. The vocalist took part in its creation. The After Forever group ceased to exist.
Suddenly quit her Nightwish job at Anette Olzon. It was decided to replace it with Floor. The new soloist memorized the texts of the set list during an intercontinental flight from Europe to America.
She entered the stage as a member of the collective after the only rehearsal. At first, working with the group was perceived as temporary, because in addition to her singing skills, the girl showed herself as a composer.
She released the Wild Card album as part of the ReVamp project. But for Nightwish, Floor has not become a temporary replacement either. At first it was decided to record a DVD with the new soloist.
It was followed by a statement from the collective that from now on they have a permanent vocalist. Since that time, Tuomas has not changed his sympathy. He heard his own music performed by Valkyrie. Even participation in the group could not keep the girl within a single creative framework.
She started working with Timo Tolkki on the Avalon project. Everything went in parallel, as the ReVamp collective continues to exist, and Floor does not say anything about the dissolution. In a tight schedule, the girl managed to find time to study Finnish.
Personal happiness
Jansen has reached professional heights in her work. However, Valkyrie was able to find love as well. She has a close relationship with Sabaton drummer Hannes van Dall. In age, he is much younger than his chosen one.
In 2016, on September 18, the news was heard that the musicians were expecting a replenishment in the family. In 2017, on March 15, Flor gave birth to her husband a child, a daughter. The girl was named Freya.
After spending a year in Finland, Flor decides to move to Sweden. It was not easy for the singer to endure the harsh winter. In Finland, however, this season is distinguished by an especially small amount of sun and especially severe frosts.
In 2007 Jansen met Jørn Viggo Lofstad at the festival. The musician was a member of the Pagan's Mind group. Both began preparations to record a joint hard rock album. The work started in 2008.
However, the musicians failed to complete the project: the workload of both turned out to be too high. Only in 2017 it became possible to continue the activity.
After the reunion, the group was named Northward, like the album. It was finalized and released on October 19, 2018. According to Floor, due to her and Lofstad's employment in their teams, Northward will remain a studio side project, he will not be able to become a full-fledged group. There is no point in expecting live performances for fans.
