With the shell of Easter eggs, believers do different things. Some, without a bit of hesitation, throw it into the trash can, others diligently bury it in the ground, others burn it pompously, and still keep it in the house as a church shrine.
Church opinion
As the majority of Orthodox priests explain, sprinkling with holy water (consecration) of all products for Easter and other church holidays does not turn them into any shrine. In the same way, packages, dishes and other things do not become sacred if drops of holy water fall on them when the priest is sprinkled on it.
By bringing food to church for sanctification, believers thus ask for God's help in their work, which ultimately results in the presence of these foods on the family table. Leaving part of the consecrated food in the church, the Orthodox donate it for the poor, thereby giving alms. In Christianity, giving is considered one of the greatest virtues.
Is it possible to throw out the shell of consecrated eggs
The shell of Easter eggs should be treated as ordinary. That is, it can be safely thrown into the trash can. There will be no divine punishment for this.
If you still doubt the opinion of the priests, you can take the Easter shell and other remnants of the festive meal to the forest, and bury them or burn them there.
Egg stickers depicting the Mother of God and Christ are another dilemma that haunts many believers. Shells with such stickers should not be thrown away. It can be taken to the church, where it is disposed of in a special way. You can also burn it yourself, and subsequently bury the ashes in the ground.
