Nico Rosberg is a former German-Finnish Formula One racer known as one of the top two Silver Arrows pilots alongside Lewis Hamilton. Niko began his Formula 1 career in 2006 with the Williams team, in which his father, Keke Rosberg, became world champion back in 1982. In the early stages of his career, Niko performed consistently, but there were not many podiums and points, but when he joined the recently reformed Mercedes team in 2010, his career immediately took off. During his performance for the German stable, Niko managed to win 23 Grand Prix and started 30 times from the first position of the starting grid.
Childhood and youth
Nico Rosberg was born in Wiesbaden, West Germany on June 27, 1985, to the 1982 F1 world champion, Keke Rosberg. Despite being the son of Keke himself, Niko was a very insecure child and did not believe that he could be as great a racer as his father.
At the age of 6, he became acquainted with the world of karting. At school, Niko studied perfectly well. He could speak fluently German, French, Italian, Spanish and English and all the teachers were delighted with him.
Career
Niko began his royal racing career as Williams' test driver at the 2006 Bahrain Grand Prix. And in the next 2007 season, he sat behind the wheel of a car already in the role of a prize driver and very often finished at the Grand Prix in the TOP-10.
At the 2008 Australian Grand Prix, Niko surprised everyone with his impressive performance and finished in third place. Another important moment came at the Singapore Grand Prix in the same year, where he led the peloton for a while and finished in second place. The following year was even more successful, but after the 2009 season, Niko said goodbye to Williams, stating that their resources were not efficient enough to win the races, and signed a contract with Mercedes.
Rosberg began his partnership with Mercedes with a race in Malaysia in the 2010 season, where he finished third. His performances for the Silver Arrows almost always ended in the TOP-10, but he was able to win his first victory at the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix and became the first German driver to win a Grand Prix in a German car.
In the 2013 season, Niko finished fourth at the Malaysian Grand Prix and won the British Grand Prix, overtaking teammate Lewis Hamilton.
At the beginning of the 2014 season, Niko distinguished himself at the Australian Grand Prix, and then won in Brazil, but lost to Lewis Hamilton due to technical problems. Later in an interview, he praised the Briton and said that Lewis did a better job than him.
In 2015, Rosberg won his tenth career win in Monaco. He later won victories in Canada and Austria and finished second in the British Grand Prix. In Brazil, Abu Dhabi and Mexico, Niko is also at the top of the podium, but despite this, he lost the championship to his team mate.
The 2016 season started well for Niko; he won the Grand Prix of Australia and Bahrain, and later, victories in China and Russia made him only the second driver after Michael Schumacher to win the first four races of the season. Mercedes won almost all stages this year, and the main intrigue of the season was the struggle between Rosberg and Hamilton. The victory in Japan helped Niko get ahead of Lewis on points, and the second place he earned from the race in Abu Dhabi finally made him the world champion.
At the awards ceremony in Vienna on December 2, 2016, Nico Rosberg shocked fans by announcing his retirement from Formula 1. The most amazing thing was that he made a statement immediately after achieving his dream.
During his career, Niko has won several awards such as the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy, DHL Fastest Lap Award, FIA pole trophy and many more.
Personal life
Nico Rosberg married his childhood friend Vivian Siebold. They have been friends since childhood and signed in July 2014. And in August 2015 their daughter Vivian was born.
