When the war began, the head of the family went to the front, and my mother and Yura were evacuated to the city of Ryazan. It was possible to return to the capital only in 1947. The child went to school, and the adults took up the arrangement of a peaceful life.
Yura grew up as an energetic and inquisitive boy. He studied well, but it was difficult for him to be given exemplary behavior. Strict parents reacted strictly and unambiguously to complaints from teachers. The violator of discipline was punished with a belt in all soft spots. The situation changed dramatically in the seventh grade, when separate education was abolished in schools. The presence of the girls had the best effect on Kuzmenkov. He began to study better and began studying in a drama studio.

However, the father said his resolute "no", and the young man handed over the documents to the construction institute. Yuri passed his exams unsuccessfully and did not receive his student card. Then he was admitted to the vocational school without objection. Having received the specialty of a tool-maker, Kuzmenkov got a job at the famous Compressor plant. An amateur theater operated at the enterprise at that time. The young specialist was gladly accepted into the troupe. Yuri was happy to memorize large texts and he got the main roles.
At one point, a large article was published about Kuzmenkov's amateur work in the factory newspaper. With this newspaper, the aspiring actor went to get a job at the Mossovet Academic Theater. He was not accepted into the troupe, but he was enrolled in a studio that trained actors. After completing his studies, the actor was enrolled in the theater staff. Kuzmenkov served on this stage until his retirement. In repertoire performances, he played almost all the main roles. He acted in films many times.
