The Vietnam War is one of the worst conflicts of the second half of the 20th century. Later, North Vietnam was drawn into the armed conflict, which received the support of the PRC and the USSR, as well as the United States and its allies fighting on the side of South Vietnam. Apocalypse Now (1979). The film is directed by Francis Ford Coppola, based on the story "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad. The plot of the film tells about the special forces captain Willard, who is sent to carry out a mission in the jungle of Cambodia. The goal of the mission is to find and destroy the crazy Colonel Kurtz, who began to command local troops and create lawlessness. In this film, the real stars of world cinema played: Marlon Brando, Dennis Hopper, Robert Duvall, Martin Sheen and others. Apocalypse Now won two Academy Awards, the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and three Golden Globes.
The Deer Hunter (1978). The film follows the lives of three friends who live and work in a small industrial town in Pennsylvania. The Vietnam War will affect the lives of each of them. After her, peaceful life will never be the same. Heavy military drama with amazing acting. At one time, this film caused a sharp rejection from the USSR and the countries of the socialist camp. During its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, a real scandal erupted: the USSR delegation demonstratively left the hall. Delegations from Cuba, East Germany, Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria followed suit. In 2006, the film "The Deer Hunter" was ranked 53rd among the top 100 American films in history by the American Film Institute.
"All-metal jacket" (1978). This film is worth watching if only because it was directed by the greatest director of our time - Stanley Kubrick. Young Americans drafted into the army are trained in training camps before going to the front. Immediately upon arrival, heavy training begins for the recruits, the commanders subject them to constant ridicule and humiliation. Some recruits get stronger, while others break. They have a real war ahead. And this makes it even worse. The film turned out to be very tough, but unusual and exciting.
Modern films about the Vietnam war
Unfortunately, the topic of the Vietnam War in cinematography gradually became less relevant than in the twentieth century. Perhaps the senses were dulled and the tragedy of that time was not felt by the Americans with the same acuteness and pain. In the 21st century, not very many films about the Vietnam War were shot that deserve the audience's attention.
Saving Dawn (2006) is perhaps one of the best relatively new films about the Vietnam War. The plot of the picture is based on real events. The film tells about the tragic fate of the US Navy pilot Dieter Dengler. He took part in the Vietnam War - he bombed civilians, but once his plane was shot down, and Dieter himself was captured. Here he has to survive at any cost. The main role in this film was brilliantly played by Christian Bale. The film keeps in colossal tension until the end credits.
