Modern society is made up of a great many different types of people. Someone is "turned" on modern music, someone is fond of sports, but there are also people who find happiness in a different kind of pleasure.

Rastamans are a relatively young subculture
Rastamans are a relatively young subculture

Today, most people associate the word "rastaman" with those who like to use illegal substances. Indeed, cannabis is one of the almost integral parts of the culture of Rastafarianism, but it is not its fundamental component.

Where did they come from?

Rastafarians originally emerged in the 1960s, forming the religious culture of Rastafarianism. As a result of this movement, such a popular musical direction as reggae, which was originally part of the general culture, appeared. Today, Rastafarianism in general (and Rastafarians, in particular) is not a pronounced religious movement.

The main postulates of rastamans

- Sunshine, sunshine reggie. Reggae music is foundational among the Rastafarian movement.

- Dreadlocks. Many Rastas wear long braids called dreadlocks (dreadlocks).

- Green-yellow-red. Ethiopia's flag - green on top, yellow in the middle and red on the bottom, which also depicts a lion in a crown with a cross - is a kind of symbols of the Rasta. T-shirts, baseball caps and hats of such colors are popular, which, as it were, make it clear to others about the subcultural affiliation of their owner.

- Cannabis. Many rastamans do not sin by using the illegal drug - cannabis, in simple terms - cannabis. Many lovers of this potion try to pass themselves off as rastamans, although initially the rastaman movement had a very indirect relationship to drug use.

Africa and Africans

It is worth noting that initially the Rastas were adherents of the idea of returning American blacks to Africa. That is why modern Russian-speaking rastamans can be called such very conditionally, since most of them have nothing to do with America, much less Africa.

Summing up, we can say that the rastaman is an extensive youth subculture. Its typical representative “for peace, not for war,” loves to wear red-yellow-green wardrobe items, listens to positive and non-aggressive reggae music and occasionally indulges in forbidden fun in the form of smoking dried marijuana.
