From the biography of Donald Sutherland

The future actor was born on July 17, 1935 in the city of St. John, located in Canada. His parents were ordinary people of the middle class. The father was engaged in trade, the mother kept the household. Among the ancestors of Donald were Germans, Scots, English.

For a long time, Sutherland could not decide on a profession. He was attracted to different types of activities, but he could not stop at one thing. At the age of fourteen, Donald took a job as a reporter for a radio station. But soon he left this occupation, deciding to get an engineering education.

After graduating from high school, Sutherland moved to Toronto, where he became a student at a local university. Donald studied well, but had no particular interest in the subjects studied. The reason for this was the theater club at the university. Sutherland is actively involved in amateur theater productions and at the same time attends classes at the Faculty of Arts. As a result, Donald received two diplomas at the end of the university, becoming a specialist in both engineering and acting.

After graduating from high school, Sutherland performed with a comedy group, but after a while he left this occupation. He went to England, where he became a student at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Donald combined his studies with work on television. He also had a chance to perform in provincial theaters in England. From a certain point, the budding young actor became a very prominent figure on the theater scene in the British Isles. By the age of 25, Sutherland was considered one of the most promising actors; he was often invited to play on the stages of London theaters.

Creativity in the life of Donald Sutherland

Donald's ascent to the heights of theatrical skill was accompanied by work in the cinema. At first, he got only minor roles. And the first glory in the cinema to the actor was brought by horror films: in 1964 the actor starred in the film "Castle of the Living Dead". Then there were other roles in similar films.

After that, Sutherland switched to TV shows, where he was already offered larger roles. The actor's work in the comedy "Military Field Hospital M. E. Sh" (1970) brought true fame and recognition of the public to the actor.

A few years later, Sutherland was already shining on the stellar horizon of theater and television. The talented Canadian is invited to work on creative projects on both sides of the Atlantic. Impressive fees were added to the fame.

Sutherland has been nominated countless times for a variety of film awards. In the 70s and 80s, he continued to appear in the highest grossing films. However, soon in the creative career of Donald there was a certain decline: he takes on not the most impressive roles. This situation continued in the last decade of the last century.

One of the most significant works of the actor in recent years can be considered his role in the films "Eagle of the Ninth Legion", "Mechanic", "The Hunger Games".

Donald Sutherland's personal life

Sutherland's personal life is not considered too eventful by the standards of Hollywood. As a young man, Donald married Lois Hardwicke, but the marriage was very short.

The actor has an equally famous son, Kiefer Sutherland, who is not very much inferior to his father in terms of his popularity in the world of cinema, as well as a daughter, Rachel. Kiefer and Rachel's mother is Canadian actress Shirley Douglas, with whom Sutherland Sr. had a relationship from 1966 to 1970.

Sutherland is now married to the popular actress Frances Rassett.
