The OKATO code must be indicated in the payment orders generated for the transfer of taxes to the budget. A mistake in this value is fraught with the fact that the payment will not be credited, and the taxpayer will be on the list of debtors. You can find out your OKATO code using the "Fill in a payment order" service available on the main page of the FTS of Russia website.

Step 1
If you know the four-digit code of your inspection, you just need to enter it in the search form and click on the "Next" button. In the inspection code, the first two digits are the code of your region, usually the same as that written on the license plates of cars (Kostroma region - 44, Yaroslavl - 76, Moscow - 77, etc.). The rest are the serial number of the inspection. You can also find out the code at your registration address using the service "Find out the address of the Federal Tax Service", also available on the main page of the website of the Federal Tax Service of Russia. In large cities and rural areas, the area of responsibility of one inspectorate may include several municipalities. In this case, the service will prompt you to choose your own.
Step 2
An alternative option is also possible. Leave the field for the inspection code blank and immediately click "Next". The service will offer you to choose a region, district or city, settlement, street from the drop-down lists. After designating all the relevant parameters for your case, click "Next" again.
Step 3
On the page that opens next, you can see the code of the tax office itself, OKATO and OKATOM, which must be indicated in the corresponding columns of the payment document.
The OKATOM code is important if the inspection (and the OKATO code refers specifically to it) serves several municipalities. Each of them has its own OKATOM. And when paying taxes that go to the budget of the municipality, in particular the unified imputed income tax (UTII), this set of numbers plays a key role. If the boundaries of the municipality and the area of responsibility of the inspection coincide, the OKATO code is usually sufficient.
