The British crown, the nobility and the big bourgeoisie made huge profits from the North American colonies. At the same time, all of them, fearing the growing competition, in every possible way tried to slow down the development of trade and industry there.
In 1775, the War of Independence of the North American colonies against the dictatorship of Great Britain began. This bloody war lasted until 1783. Great Britain, exhausted by a long confrontation, recognized the independence of the United States.
Of the 56 people who signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, five were captured by the British and executed as traitors. Nine people were killed in the Revolutionary War, and two were subsequently elected presidents of the United States - John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.
On July 4, the United States celebrates its national holiday - Independence Day.
