Sergei Bodrov is primarily known as an actor who played the main roles in the acclaimed films "Brother" and "Brother-2". Throughout his life, he managed to act as a director once, having released the film "Sisters" on the screens. A glacier prevented Sergei from filming his second film.
A life
Bodrov Sergei Sergeevich was born on December 27, 1971 in the family of a famous director and art critic. As a child, Sergei practically did not differ in anything from his peers, except that he was a little more independent than his classmates. He loved to be alone and found his happiness in his solitude. Sergei studied at a school with in-depth study of the French language and was going to enter VGIK.
However, his father dissuaded Sergei from entering the directing faculty, explaining that cinema is a passion, and if it does not exist, then it is better not to start. Apparently, this wording suited Sergei, because he deliberately rejected an attempt to storm VGIK and went to the history department of Moscow State University to study the history of art.
Sergey became interested in art for real, graduated with honors, entered graduate school and defended his dissertation, becoming a candidate of sciences. However, the passion for cinema overpowered everything. In 1995, he asked his father to be present at the filming of the film "Prisoner of the Caucasus". However, without thinking twice, Bodrov Sr. offered his son a supporting role - conscript Vanya Zhilin. Sergey coped with the task, which resulted in numerous awards received at various festivals.
Before "Prisoner of the Caucasus" Sergei Bodrov starred in episodes in the films "I hate you", "SIR" and "White King, Red Queen".
Trips to festivals gave Sergey the opportunity to meet and communicate with various creative people. The meeting of Sergei Bodrov with director Alexei Balabanov, who preferred to shoot non-professional actors in his films, became significant. The result of the meeting - Sergei's participation in three films by Balabanov: "Brother", "Brother-2" and "War".
Death
The last role in the cinema of Sergei Bodrov was the role of Misha in the film "Bear Kiss". In July 2002, he began filming his second film (after Sisters) - The Messenger. The picture was supposed to tell the story of two romantic friends, one of whom was to be played by Sergei. He also acted as a screenwriter and director of his picture.
“… I’m in it like coffee in a bag: three in one - the scriptwriter, the director and I play the main role,” Bodrov said about his brainchild.
However, the story could not be completed. Only a few episodes were filmed in the women's colony, then the film crew moved to the Karmadon Gorge. Filming began with a delay, as the transport could not come for a long time. By evening, the work was finished, but no one returned to the hotel.
A block of ice fell on the Kolka glacier, after which it instantly covered the entire gorge with its mass. In a matter of seconds, people, equipment and machines were buried under a kilometer-long layer of snow.
The search for the victims lasted until February 2004, but Sergei's body was not found. Some scientists suggest that the glacier will melt for about twelve years, but even after this time, finding and identifying the bodies will be very difficult.
A memorial plaque with his name was installed in the school where Sergei Bodrov studied.
