Oleg Vidov is a Soviet and Russian actor, known mainly for the films Headless Horseman and Gentlemen of Fortune. Already in adulthood, he emigrated to the United States, where he lived until the end of his life, having managed to star in several Hollywood films.
Biography
Oleg Vidov was born in 1943 in the town of Vidnoe near Moscow. The family of the future actor was far from poor, but constantly strived to find their "place in the sun", which is why the Vidovs often moved from one place to another. At the age of 14, Oleg graduated from the School of Working Youth and got a job as an electrician. Once he arrived at the next call in Ostankino and came face to face with the world of cinema and television: a 17-year-old boy was offered to star in an episode of the movie "My friend, Kolka!"
Two years later, Vidov was already studying at the State Cinematographic Institute. In his student years, he starred in the films "I walk around Moscow" and "If you're wrong." The roles were episodic, but the aspiring actor was noticed by director Vladimir Basov, who invited him to his film "Blizzard". The tape was released in 1964 and brought Vidov his first fame. Then the actor starred in the films "An Ordinary Miracle", and "The Tale of Tsar Saltan" and the international project "Red Robe".
In 1971, Oleg Vidov played the role of an undercover policeman in the famous comedy "Gentlemen of Fortune", which brought him deafening popularity. It was followed by the TV musical "The Bat" and the tape "Moscow, my love". Soon, Vidov was chosen to play the role of Maurice Gerald in the Russian-Cuban film Headless Horseman. This look remains one of the most iconic of his career.
Having starred in several more little-known films, Oleg Vidov emigrated to the United States in 1985. There, the Soviet actor turned out to be quite in demand. Three years later, he played in the cult action movie "Red Heat", then in the melodrama "Wild Orchid". He also starred in several Russian-American projects, including Three August Days and Ice Runner. The rest of the films were no longer so memorable, but the actor had enough money to live on. He lived until May 16, 2017 and died of cancer.
Personal life
At the beginning of his acting career, Oleg Vidov married the daughter of a prominent military man, Natalya Fedotova. The couple had a son, Vyacheslav. By now, it is not known exactly how long the couple lived together, but eventually broke up. It was a difficult relationship for the actor: his wife controlled his every step and hardly let him go to the next shoot.
While on a foreign trip in Italy, Oleg Vidov met a new love, which became a journalist from the United States Joan Borsten. It was with her that the actor emigrated to the United States after the wedding in 1989. In marriage, a son, Sergei, was born. Until the end of his days, Oleg Vidov lived with his family in the California town of Westlake Village.
