The path to literature

The biography of the future celebrity began in 1820. Barbora Navotna was born in Vienna on February 4 in the family of Johann Pankl and Theresia Navotna.

The grandmother was engaged in raising the child. She instilled in her granddaughter a love for folk art, moral ideals. The baby was culturally enriched by the proximity to the master's yard. The girl spent her childhood in Ratiborice. She then described the happy time in her autobiographical work "Granny".

Barbora received her primary education. The girl studied at the Ceska Skalice school from 1826 to 1833. However, her natural abilities allowed her to become a well-read and well-educated person. The personal life of the future writer was not easy. In 1837, the wedding ceremony of Barbara Navotna and the tax inspector Josef Nemec took place.

All the time, the husband spent on long business trips, the wife remained alone for a long time or traveled with her husband to various cities. The family has four children.

In 1842-1845, during her stay in Prague, Nemtsova met many famous people of her time. Under the influence of the poet Nebesky, she began to write poetry. The first work was called "Women of the Czech Republic". It was published in 1843 under the author of Bozena Nemtsova. After several experiments in poetry, the writer turned to prose.

Bright works

However, the beginning of the first stage on the literary path was a collection of folklore works. Bozena collected materials for him from all over the Czech Republic. The book was titled "Folk Tales and Legends". Tales from it have been translated into many languages. Modern children read them with pleasure. This book took a special place in the writer's work.

The first "village" stories of the writer were published in the forties. At the beginning, the essays were distinguished by the orientation of local lore. The collection was called Pictures from the Domažlitsky District. The writer in the work showed real sympathy for ordinary people.

The patriotism of the writer is especially noticeable in the article "Rural Politics". With the transfer of her husband to Slovakia, along with the children, Bozena went with him to a new place. In 1850 they settled again in Prague.

The situation worsened due to the death of the eldest son Ginek, a serious illness of Nemtsova herself. However, it was at this difficult time that the author began to create her most famous work, the novel "Grandmother".

The novel has become a true masterpiece of literature. It has several storylines. Shows the life of the main character, Magdalena Novotna, the everyday life of village life in the Czech Republic with holidays and traditions, as well as individual stories.

Novels and stories

The novels "Karl", "Rosarka", "Sisters" were published after him. Each story shows the real life of the village. Always in the works of an optimistic writer, good has triumphed over evil.

In 1852 Bozena wrote travel notes about Slovakia. In 1855 the story "Wild Bara" was created. Her main character, the daughter of the shepherd Yakub Bara, was associated with witchcraft and was called a descendant of the midday witch. The girl lost her mother early, and the circumstances of her birth seemed supernatural to people.

From 1855 to 1858, the works "A Good Man", "A House in the Mountains", "In the Castle and Near the Castle" appeared, collected and translated by the author "Slovak Fairy Tales" and the story "Mister Teacher", which became the last work of the writer.

It shows the experiences of a six-year-old toddler. The main character was brought to an unfamiliar village, he must go to school for the first time, and he has already heard a lot of terrible things about studying. However, to the joy of the child, the teacher turns out to be a teacher by vocation, the memory of which remains forever.

From 1856 the Nemtsovs spent several quiet years in Slovakia. This time became the most productive for the literary work of Bozena. She wrote the novel "Mountain Village", which she called the main masterpiece. Also, the compositions that made up the book "Slovak Tales and Tales" appeared.

Last years

After parting with her husband, Nemtsova in the fall of 1861 moved to Litomyšl. For a long time she waited in vain for the publication of her works there. The return to Prague took place at the end of autumn. On January 20, 1862, the writer received a signal copy of the first part of "Granny". The poor quality of the novel greatly upset the writer. On January 21, Bozena Nemtsova passed away.

A monument to her was erected in the middle of the Vltava, on the Slavyansky Island. The author of the project is the sculptor Karel Pokorny. The writer's museum was opened in the Czech town of Česká Skalice. Another monument to the writer stands nearby.

Over time, Nemtsova's works have become one of the most parodied in the country. This situation does not harm them in any way. The stories of Nemtsova are still popular. Many biographies, biographies are written on them, feature films are shot. Dedicated to the writer of the poem.

In Ratiborice there is a sculptural composition dedicated to the heroes of the novel "Grandmother".
