American-Australian writer and screenwriter Scott Westerfeld has become famous for his works of the genre of dystopia, steampunk and science fiction. The books of the mystical trilogy "Night owls", which won five international awards, have become especially popular. His book Inferno: Army of the Night has won four international literary awards.
Scott David Westerfeld is not only the author of novels and short stories, the most famous of which is nominated for the Locus Prize. He has written dozens of children's works and two non-fiction books. He is also a good programmer specializing in software development and a dance music composer. Also, sometimes the author, as a "ghost", works for already famous writers, calling such creativity "a matter for the soul."
Difficulties of choice
The biography of the future writer began in 1963. The child was born in Dallas on May 5 in the family of Lloyd and Pamela Westerfeld. The birth of his brother was formed by his two older sisters, Jackie and Wendy.
The head of the family worked as a programmer. In the sixties, computers were huge and required a lot of people to maintain them. Lloyd worked in Univac offices located in different cities, so the children constantly moved with their parents. They lived in Houston, when their father worked for the Apollo mission, and in California and Kentucky, where he worked for The Boeing Company and on submarines.
Having watched his father's activities from childhood, Scott intended to become a programmer. After graduating from the Dallas School of the Arts in 1985, he studied philosophy. Then he decided to get an education for his chosen profession. He wrote his thesis on performance research for the University of New York. The young man managed to work in a factory where parts were made from lead, and he was a teacher, and he developed programs, and even edited textbooks.
The idea of a test of strength in the literary field did not come to Westerfeld immediately. His debut was the novel "Polymorph". The book came out in 1997. It was followed by Fine Prey with Evolution's Darling. The works were published, but the author did not bring fame. True, Evolution's Darling was honored with a special mention when announcing the results of the Philip K. Dick Award in 2001. The book was also included in the "Notable Book for 2000" list.
Success and recognition
Scott considered all this a great success and continued to write. The "Sequence" started in 2003 became the happy one. According to the author's intention, the action takes place in the distant future. The galaxy is completely mastered by earthlings. However, people who have received immortality have to face an unfamiliar civilization of the Ricks, who want to create a superintelligence to spread it across all galaxies.

The new cycle "Night owls", created a year later, also strengthened its popularity. Its main characters are teenagers, gifted with superpowers and born at midnight. This time later turned for each of them into an hour filled with dangerous adventures. After the novels enthusiastically accepted by the youth audience, the author realized that each of his new books turns into a bestseller.
Equally interesting is his dystopian cycle Rebellious or Tally Youngblood's World, awarded with the American Librarians Association prize. According to the plot, the main character will have to learn a lot before she can make an informed choice. A girl who dreams of becoming the same beauty as her friends will discover the secrets of "beauty operations", she will find new friends and embark on a path filled with dangers.
New Achievements
In the Inferno series, the author writes on a topic that has already become super popular: vampires. However, even here the writer manages to add something unusual and intriguing to what is already known. According to his plan, the protection of life on the planet is entrusted only to real heroes. The author does not argue with this.
Only it is not known what to do with the fact that none of them knows about the impending disaster, and the army of the night is ready to exterminate all of humanity. The inhabitants of the Earth at night stand up to protect people. And inferns are absolutely no different from people, although humanity is afraid of them.
The heroes of the author's new universe were representatives of two parties, into which humanity was divided, "Darwinists" and "tinsmiths". The former like to create living things to replace mechanisms, while others have chosen machines. Because of the contradictions that arose between the views of both clans, a world war began. Alec and Darin, who became friends and allies in it against their will, have to work together to find ways to end the bloodshed.
The heroes of the Zeroi series have to learn to control their abilities so as not to harm others. Ethan, Thibault, Nathaniel, Riley and Chisara live in the same city. They are the same age, but belong to different strata of society and would never have met if it had not been for the talents they received. The author gives his version of American superheroes. Teenagers ironically call themselves "zeros", that is, "zeros." However, they still rally into a single team to solve common problems.
The cycle "Spill Night" is written in the genre of comics, and in the trilogy "New York" all works are conditionally connected only by a common scene. Westerfeld also took part in several inter-author projects. The most famous was "The Universe of Buffy and Angel". The personal life of the writer also developed happily.
