This priest spent all his money on enlightening the common people. As a result, he managed to make enemies for himself, who did everything so that during his lifetime he did not see rewards for his labors.
There are a wide variety of characters among the clergy. Some build their careers, taking advantage of the gullibility of people and juggling quotes from the Gospel, someone tries to repeat the path of Christ, periodically doing absurd acts, and only a few keep up with the times and provide real help to those in need. Our hero also correctly understood the instructions of Jesus.
Childhood
Cyril was born in March 1774. His father Vasily was a priest in Novomirgorod near Elisavetgrad. These were the lands of the Zaporizhzhya Army, the borderlands of the Russian Empire, until recently the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth claimed them, the Turks and Tatars periodically raided local settlers. In the year of the birth of the future enlightener, there was just a Russian-Turkish war, but the head of the family did not leave his native places and his flock.
The child grew up under the strong influence of his parents. He was being prepared for a spiritual career. As soon as Rossinsky Jr. reached adolescence, he was sent to the Novorossiysk Theological Seminary to receive an appropriate education. The boy oversaw the reclamation of lands that had recently been reclaimed from the Sublime Port. It seemed that here Mother Empress would be able to build a perfect new world.
Youth
While studying at the senior courses of the seminary, Kirill chose the activity of a preacher as his specialization. In 1795 he was ordained to the surplus for its performance. True, the guy did not manage to go on a journey immediately after graduation - he was offered to take up teaching at the alma mater. In 1789, the young man found a wife and was blessed to work as a priest.
Rossinsky was entrusted with the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in his native Novomirgorod. The newcomer was closely watched. It soon became clear that this man was in his place - he led a life that fully corresponded to his rank, was attentive to the parishioners, and was literate in sermons. The latter were so good that the diocesan authorities invited Cyril to teach this art to novice priests.
Difficult task
Competent theologians of the church were needed. In 1800, Kirill Rossinsky became an archpriest and was transferred to Taganrog. Here his speeches from the department were especially liked by the Cossacks. In 1803, a delegation from the Black Sea army came to Archbishop Afanasy Ivanov. The soldiers asked to send a Taganrog priest to them as confessors. The Holy Father agreed.
Having become a military archpriest, Rossinsky conducted a "review of the troops." It turned out that under his leadership there were only 10 people of clerical rank, who can serve in 4 churches. The situation was even worse with schools - there was only one educational institution in the region where children could be taught the basics of reading and writing. Our hero did not despair, he began to use his high rank in order to rectify the situation.
On their own
The spiritual father of the Black Sea army turned to the people for help. He looked for people ready to preach the Gospel, helped them to improve their level of knowledge and directed them to the higher ranks of the church for ordination, bypassing the seminary. Kirill Vasilievich was previously engaged in teaching work, so he managed to get acquainted with young people who were ready to go to the border lands as confessors. He invited them to new lands.
The construction of temples and educational institutions had to be carried out on their own. Kirill Rossinsky began collecting donations from the population for the needs of the church and education. Very quickly the treasury was filled, it became possible to build churches and open schools. In 1806, a district school opened its doors in Yekaterinodar. The military chancellery undertook to support him financially. Rossinsky was appointed caretaker of this institution. A high rank was not enough for him, he read the law of God for the students.
Needed by the world
In 1809, a tragedy occurred in the personal life of our hero - his wife died. The widower asked to let him go to the monastery, but the church leadership refused. Kirill Rossinsky began to seek solace in creativity. Soon he became a member of the St. Petersburg Free Society of Lovers of Russian Literature. With a penchant for science, he became interested in the rules of spelling and in 1815 published a book on this issue.
The holy husband was noticed in the capital. In 1812, when all of Russia was experiencing the invasion of Napoleonic troops and was delighted with the courage of their sons, Cyril Rossinsky's contribution to the development of the south of the country was celebrated with the Order of St. Anna, III degree. After 7 years, our hero took up the realization of his dream - the opening of a gymnasium in Yekaterinodar.
Crown of thorns
Funds for this educational institution were allocated by the Treasury of the Black Sea Troops. Among the officials were those who did not approve of such spending. In 1821, the director of the gymnasium, Archpriest Rossinsky, was denounced. The priest, who used his own money to buy textbooks for the children, was accused of bribery. Despite the fact that the biography of our hero was an example to follow, and he himself was extremely poor, the investigation began.
Kirill Rossinsky was upset by this state of affairs. He fell seriously ill. Investigators hesitated with a verdict. In December 1825 the unfortunate man died. After the burial of the famous enlightener from the capital, an acquittal and the Order of St. Anna of the II degree with diamonds came.
