Andrey was born near Moscow, in the city of Korolev, in March 1973. After graduating from high school, following his dream of space, he entered the technical school of space mechanical engineering, successfully graduated from it and received the profession of radio engineering. Then there was a study at the State Academy of Sphere and Life, parallel classes at the acting department of VGIK, on the course of Kindinov.
The decision to come to the world of cinema for Andrey was spontaneous, but correct. Already during his studies, he began to act in films, and immediately with eminent and significant directors. Despite the fact that Merzlikin, by virtue of his character, was more than once on the verge of expulsion from VGIK, he managed to graduate with honors.
Andrey Merzilkin also got married quite late - at 33 years old. His wife Anna, a psychologist by training, gave birth to three children:

- youngest daughter Evdokia in 2010.
