Samuel Morse is an American and inventor and artist. The painter's canvases are kept in many museums around the world. The most famous of his creations were the alphabet (code) and the Morse apparatus (writing the electromagnetic telegraph).

Painter's talent
His biography began in Charlestown in 1872. The boy was born into the family of a preacher on April 27. From an early age, the father raised his son inquisitive, developed his abilities. The talented young man successfully entered Yale University in 1805. The aspiring student was especially interested in electricity and painting, he even painted miniature portraits.
After receiving his education, the young man went to England to study with the famous artist Washington Allston. The student demonstrated outstanding abilities. His work "Dying Hercules" is exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. For her, the author was awarded a gold medal. Samuel returned to his homeland in 1815.
Within a few years, he became an idol for aspiring painters. His creations were purchased by museums, they were highly appreciated by the most demanding audience. The most famous portrait of one of the country's presidents, James Monroe, belongs to the Morse brush. The famous inventor founded the National Academy of Drawing, becoming its first president.
At the end of September 1818, Samuel established a personal life. He became the husband of Lucretia Pickering Walker. The family has three children. In 1829 he again went to Europe. The active organizer decided to study the structure and work of art schools. He intended to apply this knowledge in America to improve his Academy. Three years later Morse went by sea to New York.
Among the passengers of the sailing ship "Sally" was the doctor Charles Jackson, the discoverer of modern methods of anesthesia. He entertained those present with an unusual trick. The doctor used a piece of wire connected to a galvanic cell to the compass. The arrow of the device began to rotate.
The birth of an inventor
Seeing the scientific experience, Samuel caught fire with an idea that subsequently changed the world. He knew about the experiments of Faraday, Schilling, heard about the extraction of sparks from a magnet. These findings prompted a practical person to create a system for transmitting signals using combinations of sparks. An unexpected idea for the painter completely captured him.
During the month of sailing, Morse completed the drawings of the apparatus for transmitting signals. For several years, work was underway to create the device, but the desired results could not be achieved. Samuel's wife passed away, the inventor was left alone with the children. He soon became a professor of painting at the University of New York, but did not leave the experiments.
The device was shown to the public. The development transmitted the signal over a distance of over one and a half thousand feet. The device especially impressed American entrepreneur Steve Weil. He allocated a considerable amount for the experiment, provided a room suitable for research. In response, the demonstrator made the sponsor's son his assistant.
Both sides were satisfied with the results. In 1844, a telegram was first transmitted by a telegraph apparatus. As a result of further experiments, the famous Morse code appeared. The coding system used short and long messages, dots and dashes. True, in the original version there were elongated dashes. The combinations turned out to be very intricate and not very comfortable.
Together with Alfred Weil, the inventor refined the system, simplified it, bringing it closer to the modern version. In scientific circles, the invention made a splash. Experiments were carried out with a submarine cable. A practical assistant proposed the idea of a compact telegraph printer. A gifted person was able to demonstrate his abilities in various fields of activity.
The telegraph, which had been successfully used for a long time, was supplanted by the radio and the telephone, but the idea of a system for transmitting information remains relevant to this day. In the century before last, Morse's creation was patented. For a long time, the new development did not find practical application.

Then real fame fell upon the discoverer. The longest use of his telegraph was on the railway. Moreover, those who applied it did not ask to change anything in the invention, simplifying the system. They were completely satisfied with everything. The inventor received substantial payments from many countries. This was enough to provide for the large Morse family.
On August 10, 1848, the inventor married again. Elizabeth Griswall became his chosen one. The marriage had four children. The inventor and painter was a sympathetic and generous person. He was actively involved in charity work.
The funds went to the maintenance of schools, the development of various societies for the development of art, for museums. He supported novice painters and scientists, not forgetting that tycoon Vale helped him in difficult times.
