Historians often form an idea of past eras based on historical documents and evidence. But when it comes to the primitive period, scientists have only the results of archaeological excavations at their disposal.

Step 1
For a long time, primitive people led a nomadic lifestyle, uniting in the first collectives - herds, it was this association that became the basis for the formation of speech in humans. Communication through sounds and gestures was insufficient for effective interaction within the group.
Step 2
Archaeologists quite often manage to find the remains of ancient dwellings of primitive people. At first, these were individual huts, built from improvised natural materials: branches, animal skins, stones. The higher the organization of the primitive collective was, the more often common houses were found, which were built by the whole group and represented a corridor with branches from rooms. In mountainous areas, primitive people often used natural caves for living, settled them, and decorated them with rock paintings.

Food was obtained in two main ways: hunting and gathering. Hunting occupied a priority place in the existence of primitive man, because it was hunting that gave people not only food, but also skins for sewing warm clothes and shoes, materials for insulating dwellings during cold weather. Deer antlers and mammoth tusks were often used as reliable building materials, since they did not rot.
Step 4
Ancient man was still in complete unity with nature, but, unlike representatives of the animal world, he was actively looking for an explanation of the riddles of the world around him. A man of that time could not do it otherwise than observing nature and transferring his own feelings to it. Hence the first beliefs of people arose, based on the fact that nature is a living organism, each element of which is a living being, just a stone does not look like a person, like, say, a tiger. But there were also such phenomena in nature that a person could not equate with himself: natural disasters, fire, birth, death. All this led a person to understand that there are some special invisible forces in the world, so the first cults began to arise.
Step 5
Primitive man was a creative person. Stone, bone, wood, actively used for the manufacture of tools and hunting, were no less actively used for creativity. Figures carved from bone, rock paintings, became the first examples of human art.
