The World Wildlife Fund is the largest international public conservation organization. All over the world it is known as the World Wildlife Fund or WWF for short.
WWF Mission and Symbols
The organization works in all areas related to the research, conservation and restoration of the environment. Over 5 million people support WWF. One way or another, the organization is represented in more than 100 countries of the world. It supports 1,300 different environmental projects.
WWF's mission is to prevent the growing degradation of wildlife and achieve harmony between man and his natural habitat - planet Earth. The main goal of the organization, which has been implemented since its foundation in 1961, is to preserve the biological diversity of nature.
The symbol of the foundation is a giant panda from the London Zoo. In 1961 Sir Peter Scott, a scientist and animal painter, created a stylized portrait of this animal, deciding that the image of the good-natured and endangered bamboo bear would be a great symbol for a new conservation fund. Now the panda icon with the letters WWF is known all over the world.
