Until the twentieth century
On October 13, 1307, by order of the King of France Philip IV the Fair, several hundred Knights Templar were arrested, tortured, and then executed. They were accused of idolatry and heresy.
On August 13, 1521, Hernan Cortes captured the Aztec ruler Cuautemoc of Tenochtitlan. The city was declared to belong to Spain and was named Mexico City. It was this event that became the "beginning of the end" for the great state of the Aztecs.
