Perhaps every Orthodox believer keeps in his home a supply of holy water, which, according to religious legends, has unlimited healing power. At the same time, its effect increases in proportion to the faith of the parishioner. The Orthodox Church treats the daily ablution with holy water positively, but does not force believers to do it. Meanwhile, the life of a true Orthodox parishioner is not complete without this pleasant and soulful ritual.
It is necessary
- Holy water
- Tap water
- Bowl for ablution
- Clean sponge
Instructions
Step 1
Wash yourself with soap and plain water. It is necessary to thoroughly cleanse the skin of the face from impurities and residues of cosmetics. According to religious teaching, contact with holy water and other attributes of the cult should be carried out only on a clean body. That is why you should not touch icons with painted lips, and during baptism, women should not apply makeup on their faces.
Step 2
Pour a small amount of warm tap water into a bowl. This water will become the basis for ablution. Add a small amount of holy water. According to religious teachings, holy water, added to any amount of ordinary liquid, turns it into baptismal water. Oddly enough, but from the point of view of physics, this phenomenon is confirmed - the molecular structure of tap water changes after adding a small amount of saint.
Step 3
Take a clean sponge. It should only be used for ablution. After the sponge becomes old and deteriorates, it should be burned. The sponge should be dipped in a bowl and squeezed out a little. Sweep the sponge over your face and neck, applying pressure with each movement. In this case, the water should drain from the face in jets, which are not recommended to be wiped off. During this procedure, it will not be superfluous to put your thoughts in order, read the morning prayer and turn to God.
Step 4
Soak your fingers in a bowl of holy water and tap water and sprinkle on your forehead, temples, crown and back of your head. It is also supposed to moisten the eyes with water. There is an opinion that such a procedure has a healing effect. In case of diseases of various parts of the body, bruises and skin diseases, the daily ablution procedure can include that part of the body that requires treatment.
Step 5
Splash your face with water from a bowl three times, saying to yourself: “In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen . Dampen your face with a clean towel and let the skin dry naturally. It is not recommended to wipe the skin dry.
