According to your faith, it will be rewarded to you. It is necessary to remember the traditions of our ancestors and learn how to properly treat icons and their placement in the house. Follow some tips and you will be fine.
Instructions
Step 1
Since ancient times, Christians have prayed, turning to the East. Therefore, it is customary to equip the iconostasis in the eastern side of the house room. If the layout of the room does not allow this, then it is necessary to choose the corner or wall closest to the east. Following pious traditions, there is no need to absolutize them. It is permissible to place some of the icons on other sides of the house, so that the spirit of the holy images would constantly support us and set us up for positive emotions. Orthodox churches are being built with an altar on the east side.
Step 2
The most important thing is that there is enough free space in front of the "red corner" for the whole family to pray together. It is advisable to allocate a spacious shelf for the iconostasis. If all the icons do not fit on it, then the rest can be hung on any wall. It would be wrong to place icons in bookcases or other cabinets, since there should be no foreign objects next to them. Icons cannot serve as interior decoration.
Step 3
Naturally, in every home there should be icons of Jesus Christ and the Mother of God. Place the icon of the Savior on the right, on the left - the icon of the Virgin. It is also important to observe the principle of hierarchy here. Any revered icon should not be located higher than the icons of the Trinity, our savior, the Mother of God and the apostles. It is desirable that the iconostasis be crowned with a Christian cross.
Step 4
Icons can be kept in the dining room where household members dine, so that before the meal you can pray to the Almighty for their daily bread, and after dinner - thank. An icon of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God is traditionally hung over the entrance to the house.
Step 5
Among the icons, there should not be artistic paintings and engravings with biblical subjects, which a priori are not canonical icons. Accordingly, there is no place for images of monks, elders and priests, even if they are numbered among the Church of the Saints. They can be placed elsewhere.
