Kulikovo field is located in the Tula region, it is marked on all geographical maps of Russia. You can get there both by private car and by public transport.
Attractions of the Kulikov field
Kulikovo Pole is located at the junction of three districts - Kimovsky, Bogoroditsky and Kurkinsky, all of which belong to the Tula region. It is customary to understand the Kulikovo field as not only the place of the battle, but also a large area of the Russian Plain, which covers the basin of the Upper Don and the Nepryadva River. All this space is considered a state protected nature reserve.
You can start acquaintance with this historical place from Epifani - this is a former large county town, currently on the territory of a merchant's estate there is a historical and ethnographic museum, which can arouse great interest among lovers of antiquity.
The next place on the Kulikovo field where you need to go is the village of Monastyrshchino and the village of Tatinki, which are located at the confluence of the Don and Nepryadva. It was there that, by the Tatinsky ford, the regiments of Dmitry Donskoy crossed the Don to engage in battle with the army of Mamai. After the battle, the dead soldiers were buried in the village of Monastyrshchino. There was built the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, originally it was wooden, but now it is a stone building. This temple and the Alley of Memory and Unity are a museum and memorial complex, which houses a unique collection of items related to the Battle of Kulikovo.
On the way from Monastyrshchino, you can get to the site of the Battle of Kulikovo. This is a field located between the Rybiy Verkh gully and the Smolka river. Some time ago, the Green Oak Tree was revived here, hundreds of years ago there was a Reserve Regiment of Voivode Bobrok, who decided the outcome of the battle.
An obelisk in honor of Dmitry Donskoy has been erected on the highest hill of Kulikov Field; it can be seen from a distance of fifteen kilometers. The hill on which the obelisk stands is called Red. In addition to the obelisk in honor of Prince Dmitry, the temple of St. Sergius of Radonezh was built on it, which is one of the shrines of Kulikov Field.
Historical controversies
A number of researchers, based on the absence of archaeological evidence of any battles on the Kulikovo field, believe that one of the main battles of Russian history took place not at all there. Historians explain the absence of such significant finds by the fact that these things were extremely expensive in the Middle Ages, so after the battle they were most likely collected. Nevertheless, in narrow circles there are still disputes about where the Battle of Kulikovo took place.
