Childhood and youth

The future theater and film actress was born on November 7, 1901 in the family of a railway engineer. At that time, the parents lived in the southern city of Tashkent. My father worked on the railroad. He held a responsible position and received a good salary. The mother was engaged in housekeeping and raising children. Catherine turned out to be the second child in the house. She already had an older brother, and later a younger sister appeared. When the age approached, the girl was sent to a real school. But two years later, the head of the family was transferred to Moscow as an assistant at the Ministry of Railways.

In the capital, Zelenaya continued her education at an elite gymnasium. She stood out among the girl classmates for her independent behavior and not very well-groomed appearance. With her antics, Catherine resembled a boy. After graduating from high school, she decided to enter the Moscow Theater School. It is interesting to note that the girl did not even prepare for the entrance tests. She just read one of the many poems she knew by heart. In 1919, the graduated actress began performing professionally on the theater stage.

Actor's everyday life

Rina played her first role on the stage of the Odessa Mole Theater. She came to the city by the Black Sea as part of a propaganda team that toured the cities of Russia. On stage, she danced, sang and recited poetry. It happened that in one performance she performed five roles. It was during this period that Zelenaya shortened her real name Catherine to the laconic Rin. This was done for a pragmatic purpose - to save space on posters. So she went down in the history of Russian culture with the short but sonorous name of Rina.

Returning to Moscow, Zelenaya, after some hesitation, entered the service at the Do Not Miss Cabaret Theater. In the early 1920s, there was still a shortage of food and quality items in the country. During the evening performance, Rina was fed dinner. But a few weeks later, when the audience began to come to the institution specifically "on the Green", the actress was given a solid salary. When the Moscow Theater of Satire opened in 1924, she was accepted into the troupe without trial or trial. Zelena began to perform her first movie roles in the early 30s.

Rina Zelenaya owes her nationwide fame to her unique ability to speak in a child's voice.
