From the very beginning, the godfather, otherwise the recipient, was alone. When the girl was baptized, the woman was the recipient, and if the boy, respectively, the man was the godfather. In the future, they began to compare the spiritual birth with the physical, that is, as the father and mother take part in the birth of the baby, so the mother and father must be present in the spiritual.

Instructions
Step 1
Parents
The mother and father of the child have no right to be his godparents. It is worth noting that a husband and wife cannot be the recipients of one baby. Grandparents, uncles, aunts, brothers and other relatives are allowed to become a godfather or mother. It is recommended to take blood relatives as godparents. It is believed that the blood bond becomes stronger, since the recipients are the second parents of the child.
Step 2
Orthodox Christians
A recipient can be a person who is an Orthodox Christian and constantly receives communion in the church. Atheists and representatives of other religious trends cannot be godparents. At the same time, the godfather must necessarily know the Symbol of Faith and read it during the baptismal process. The recipient will also be required to read the prayer for the godson every day, since he is now responsible for the spiritual education of the child in the future. Regular church attendance and education in the Christian faith is an integral part of the duties of a godfather.
Step 3
Age
People under the age of fourteen cannot become godparents, since they do not have the spiritual experience that is required to instruct a newborn in the right faith.
Step 4
Church ministers
Monks and nuns cannot become godparents, because these people have abandoned the whole world in order to devote themselves to fasting, prayer and the struggle with passions.
Step 5
Number of godparents
It is prescribed by the Christian Church that the baby's godfather should be one, but of the same sex. If a boy is baptized, then there must be a man. If a girl, then a woman. Often a child has two godparents, but there may be more. At the same time, it must be understood that the fewer receivers a small person has, the more responsible these people will take their duties as a godparent.
Step 6
Lack of receivers
If the godparents do not have the opportunity to attend the Epiphany, then the ceremony is carried out without them. In rare cases, it is allowed to carry out the procedure without godparents. In such a situation, the priest himself is considered the godfather, but the presence of recipients is not considered mandatory.
Step 7
Pregnancy and marriage
For both girls and boys, unmarried or pregnant women have the right to be godparents. It is worth knowing that marriage between the godfather and the one who is undergoing Baptism is prohibited. Likewise, a spiritual daughter cannot become the wife of a recipient, and a mother who is widowed cannot become a wife for a godfather who has become a godfather for her daughter.
