The need to comment on the problem arises when high school students work with any text. The commentary gives an idea of the understanding of the text by pupils or students. But do not forget that a commentary is not a simple retelling of a text. Retelling the text, we talk about the heroes, and when we comment on the problem, we consider the relevance and highlight the position of the author.
Instructions
Step 1
Read the text carefully before commenting on an issue. There are two kinds of problem commentary - a textual comment, when you follow the author when identifying a problem, and a conceptual comment, when you interpret a text problem.
Step 2
A textual commentary on the problem can be composed in the form of answers to such questions: how the author reveals the problem, what he focuses on and why; the author's attitude to the problem; by what means of expressiveness the author shows his attitude to the problem.
Step 3
Conceptual commentary on the problem - gives an interpretation of the relevance. In this commentary, indicate what type of this problem (environmental, moral, social or other in your opinion), what is its relevance for our time, how it attracted this author, what conclusion the author came to.
Step 4
The commentary should follow after the formulation of the problem, and then you can make a logical transition in the following words: the position of the author is that….
Step 5
To determine the position of the author, you must once again carefully read the text, and understand the attitude of the author to the characters, what he wants to convince you of. You will definitely find the answer to this question in the text.
Step 6
Use a rough outline to comment on the problem.
1. Relevance of the problem considered by the author.
2. Causes of the problem.
3. Describe the author who raised this issue.
4. What writers do you know who have paid attention to this problem.
5. Your attitude to the problem.
Step 7
Remember, you cannot comment on the problem in isolation from the text. Use the following expressions in your comments: the problem makes you think …; the problem allows you to look differently …
In conclusion, draw a short conclusion.
