Tabitha King is the wife of the legendary "King of Horrors" Stephen King, writer and social activist. The story of her life is a story of eternal love that has overcome the most difficult obstacles and hardships. Stephen King has repeatedly emphasized that he succeeded as a writer solely thanks to his wife, and in each of his books you can find a dedication to her.
Childhood and youth
Tabitha King was born into a large Spruce family in the spring of 1949, in a small town in the American outback of Milford. Tabitha had seven brothers and sisters. Father, Raymond George Spruce, is a well-known Maine Democrat, former military man, city councilor and lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus community. He lived to be ninety years old, 63 of whom was married to his only beloved wife Sarah, and died only in 2014.
Throughout her life, Tabitha, like her brothers and sisters, was attached to her father, and it was he who put in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren the desire for knowledge, high moral qualities, a thirst to help others and a respectful attitude towards the family.
Tabitha graduated from college in her hometown and began working in a public library, which was attended by the then young Stephen King, a student at the University of Maine. The girl wrote short stories and poems that Stephen, an informal and lover of rock music, really liked.
Their acquaintance, which began in the late sixties, was marked by a wedding in 1971, and the first child of the famous spouses, daughter Naomi, was born a year before this event, in the summer of 1970. Since that time, Tabitha's biography and her personal life have been inseparable from the iconic name of Stephen King.
Creation
Tabitha Jane King debuted as a writer in 1981 with her first novel, Small World. Her works are filled with realism in life and, although there are many fantastic elements in them, the influence of the eminent husband is not at all traced. Rather, he is sometimes based on the ideas of his wife, creating a new masterpiece.
Tabitha King relies on classical literary traditions in her books, critics and readers speak of her works very positively. The woman starred in two films, where she played herself: in a cameo role in the 1981 action movie Knights Riders, and in the documentary Biography, a Television Networks project about the life of historical figures. And in 2004, according to a script written by her in collaboration with her husband and Lars von Trier, the mystical series "Royal Hospital" was released.
Of course, Tabitha is often viewed by the general readership as nothing more than a shadow of the "King." But this woman does not live “in the shadows” at all, being content with reflections of her husband's glory. She is actively involved in her own work, creating a completely original, original style of prose, and is an activist in an extensive list of public and charitable organizations.
Born in 1972 and 1977, King's sons Joe and Owen followed in their parents' footsteps. They write their own books, which are very well received by critics and readers. By the way, we would never have seen some of King's novels if not for Tabitha. For example, it was she who found the discarded draft of "Carrie" and insisted that her husband finish the book.
There was a lot in the life of the Kings - losses, scandals, financial ruin and accusations, difficulties with children, Stephen's drug and alcohol addiction, serious health problems after the notorious accident in which King almost lost his ability to walk. But they were able to overcome all this together, and Stephen King endlessly admires his wife, adoring her for his long, happy and successful life, which could take place only thanks to Tabitha.
Modern period
Stephen and Tabitha spend the winter in Florida and the rest of the year at their homes in Bangor and Lovell Center. They have four grandchildren, who are sometimes left in the care of famous grandparents. The love story of Stephen King, a great storyteller, is by his conviction and by his millions of fans the best story in the world.
