Biography

The future comedian was born in the city of Statesboro, in the southeastern United States. Since childhood, he loved to copy the gait and behavior of people, sometimes imitating his comrades. As soon as he saw an amateur camera, he instantly fell in love with the filming process and started acting as a director, forcing his friends to play the roles of actors. In the end, the McBride family came to terms with the fact that their son was obsessed with getting into big movies, and when he applied to the School of the Arts in North Carolina, no one objected.

They say that a vocation leads a person through life, this happened to Danny: at the University of North Carolina, he met David Gordon Green and Jody Hill, who became his friends, associates and like-minded people.

Within the walls of the university, he continued to make amateur films, and he did better and better. And when his student years were left behind, McBride for some time could not find a job in his specialty. Therefore, like most novice actors, he did everything that came to hand: he was a substitute teacher, a waiter, and so on.

However, in 2003 he managed to get into the project of David Gordon - the painting "All the Real Girls" (2003). Not that Danny was proud of his work, but it was the first experience, and therefore very valuable. Participation in this project helped him to believe that he would become a real professional.

Actor's career

Soon he received an offer from his university friend Jody Hill: he decided to make his own project, completely on his own. This idea was very attractive, although at first glance, a little crazy. After all, the creation of any film requires money, and a lot! However, friends with passion got down to business, and began to write the script.

Here all the talents of McBride came in handy - after all, at the very beginning of his journey to the cinema, he dreamed of becoming a screenwriter. He also played the main role of the physical education teacher, and in 2006 the picture "The Path of the Foot and the Fist" was released. Danny played here the role of a taekwondo master who experienced his wife's betrayal and could not adequately survive it. He returned from a big city to his small homeland and began to teach children at school. And at the same time, he tried with all his might to return to the big sport again.

Critics called the film "weird, rude, but charming." And the biggest success was that it was shown at the Sundance Festival. He was seen by the famous comedian Will Ferrell, as well as director Adam McKay. As soon as they mentioned this film a couple of times in their interviews, the rumor spread throughout the country, the tape began to be watched and evaluated.

The talented actor was also seen by stand-up comedian Judd Apatow and invited him to his “get-together”. It included comedians who were already authoritative in their profession, who achieved success. They represented a kind of composite face of American humor and set the tone for the comedy genre. This was another important step in the career of a novice actor - after all, if you are in a community, you receive both informational help and moral support. And also this circumstance became the recognition of his talent by more experienced comedians.

In one interview, the publicly recognized comedian, actor and director Ben Stiller said that he considers McBride one of the funniest people of our time.

Since then, the comedian has starred in more than fifty films, became a screenwriter for nine films and a producer for twenty films. He also directed three films. Not a bad track record for such a length of time in the profession.

In 2008, Danny played in the comedy Soldiers of Failure (2008), in the same year he tightened his schedule and managed to star in The Pineapple Express (2008). And that was just the beginning.

Two years later, in 2010, McBride and David Green were trapped in failure: their joint project - the fantasy comedy "Pepper Brave" was mercilessly destroyed by critics. There were many vulgar moments here, which even the American public, accustomed to these things, did not understand.

Friends explained this by the fact that they did not take the creation of the film seriously - they simply filmed one of the jokes they invented. As a result, the tape received an anti-prize: a nomination for the Golden Raspberry.

Three years later, Greene was rehabilitated: he became the winner of the Berlin Film Festival as the best director for the film "The Lord of the Markings" (2013).

And McBride went even further: he not only continued to act in films and write scripts, but also invited David Gordon Green and Jody Hill to create a production company. Friends, after some deliberation, agreed, and soon a new company, Rough House Pictures, appeared in the United States.

The most notable films that came out of Rough House Pictures, critics consider the comedy "Legacy of the White-Tailed Deer Hunter" (2018) and the sequel to the slasher movie "Halloween" (2018).

Then McBride turned his attention to television. This happened when the audience began to watch TV series with pleasure. Then the comedian began to create the project "On the Bottom" about a degraded baseball player who behaves like a complete idiot.

This project was followed by the series "Head Teachers", and then the series "The Righteous Gemstones." All of the actor's projects, where he was often both a scriptwriter and an assistant director, are a huge success.

Personal life

Danny met his future wife on the set of The Path of the Foot and Fist - Gia Ruiz was the production designer in this film. The McBride family has one child.
