Books about the structure of society are divided into utopias and dystopias. Utopias show an ideal society, while dystopias depict a social structure in which negative tendencies develop for all participants in the pursuit of the ideal.

Step 1
George Orwell. "1984". The book tells about the new structure of the world, about total control, the inability to think in your own way, express your thoughts and love, about the eternal war. The main character works in the Ministry of Truth, which is engaged in updating history in accordance with modern events. Big Brother is watching him and everyone else relentlessly. The hero tries to resist the system, finds, as it seems to him, supporters, but by the end of the work the system still breaks him. After the release of the novel, its title, terminology, and even the name of the author began to be used as a designation for what was described.
Step 2
Aldous Huxley. Brave New World. The book tells about the life of people in modern times, when everything in the world has turned upside down. The concept of a family is absent, children are now artificially raised in hatcheries, immediately divided into castes in accordance with physiological characteristics, and the words "mother" and "father" have become a curse. Society lives by needs, not spirituality. Consumption has become a cult, the main values are carelessness and debauchery. Somna, a substance that clouds the brain, helps to calm down. Even death in the new world is perceived as a holiday. As entertainment, people go to the "savages" who live in the old way. One of them finds himself in a new world and does not withstand its tests.
Step 3
Ray Bradbury. "451 degrees Fahrenheit". The novel tells about a society that has ceased to value spirituality. Now it is forbidden to read books, and even mention them, they are replaced by TV walls, which broadcast almost around the clock. There is a whole fire department that is needed in order to burn books and even the house where they are found. The epigraph explains the title of the novel - 451 degrees Fahrenheit - "the temperature at which paper ignites and burns." The main character, who worked as a firefighter, becomes disillusioned with the ideals of society and joins a small group of marginalized people who memorize books to pass them on to future generations.
Step 4
Jack London. "Scarlet Plague". The story describes a world that has lost all the achievements of civilization due to the rapidly spreading scarlet plague. The cities disappeared, and with them the achievements of science and art. This is the first post-apocalyptic work. The book tells that people on earth died out, only a small proportion of the population remained, which began to live according to primitive traditions. The story is told on behalf of the grandfather, who tells his grandchildren about how they lived before and how an unknown illness destroyed the usual way of life in society. Of course, it is very difficult for grandchildren to believe him, but the grandfather believes that over time, society will be able to reach its former level of development.
