Relatives and friends living on different sides of the ocean, in modern conditions, have almost unlimited opportunities for unhindered communication. Mobile communications, the worldwide network and satellite communication channels allow you to see and hear each other at any time, but you can still transfer something only with “physical” contact. You can send a parcel from, for example, the United States only using the mail or courier service.
Instructions
Step 1
The easiest and most reliable way to send a parcel from the United States to is to use the services of the US state mail (USPS is an analogue of the Russian Post). There are several mailing options: USPS First Class, USPS Priority, USPS Express, and USPS Global Express. Here we will just briefly say how they differ. For example, USPS First Class, unlike all the others, does not provide an opportunity to track the movement of a parcel via the Internet, and it will have to wait from 20 to 40 days.
Step 2
The fastest way to get your package is via USPS Global Express (5-15 days). Also, the difference lies in the services that deliver the parcel already on the territory of the Russian Federation: Russian post, EMS or FedEx mail. By the way, FedEx belongs to the commercial courier services of the United States, which will be discussed below.
Step 3
The second way to send a parcel from the United States to the Russian Federation is to resort to the services of commercial courier services. These include, as mentioned earlier, Fedex, as well as UPS and DHL. They make it possible to send heavier and bulkier parcels than the USPS allows. It also benefits from assigning a tracking number to each package and reducing the delivery time to 3-5 business days.
Step 4
When sending a parcel from the USA to the Russian Federation, you should know that there is a so-called "duty-free limit". With all delivery methods, you can send 1000 euros or a parcel weighing 31 kg for free once a month. The customs duty will be 30% of the amount exceeding 1000 euros (but not less than 4 euros per 1 kg).
Step 5
If you want to avoid customs duties or reduce them, do not inflate the cost of the parcel and it is better to try to split one large parcel into several small ones.
Step 6
If the parcel is still subject to customs clearance, customs must notify you of this. You are entitled to 15 days from this moment to make the customs payment. There is a penalty fee for the extra time so it is important to keep the notice.
Step 7
Due to the growth of thefts on the territory of Russia, it is better to insure the parcel when sending it. While waiting, track her movement via the Internet using a special number. Having learned that the parcel has arrived at its destination, it is better to receive it in person at the Russian Post office, even if the courier must bring it.
Step 8
Call the mail in advance and warn that you are going to do this. Sign on the notice only when you inspect the received parcel and make sure that everything is in order with it.
