Song is the most common type of vocal music. The poems and melody are interconnected in it. There are different songs by genre, style, form of performance. But the main thing unites them: the soul of the people lives in them.
What is a song?
The song is a small piece of verbal music. Performed by a soloist or choir.
The lyrics are different from other verses. They have a clear composition. Each stanza is a complete thought. And the string is equal to the phrase. In Russian song poetry, the three-beat size is widely used.
In song, there is a special connection between music and words. The melody of the song reflects the figurative content of the text as a whole. The melody and lyrics are composed of stanzas or verses (often with a chorus).
A bit of history
The song, as a musical genre, originated in ancient times. In the Middle Ages, there was no distinction between poetry and music. Only the art of song existed. For example, the songs of the troubadours.
At first the songs were monophonic. But in the sixteenth century in Italy and France they began to be performed accompanied by one or more musical instruments. This is how polyphonic songs appeared.
So different
Songs are folk and author's (professional). They interact closely with each other. Composers use folk melodies in their works. And some of the author's songs become so popular over time that the people consider them their own.
In the eighteenth century, a chamber song-romance accompanied by a keyboard instrument stands out in the song genre. During the period of the Great French Revolution, a genre of mass revolutionary songs was formed. Its striking example is the Marseillaise.
The early twentieth century saw the rise of the workers' revolutionary song in many countries. Its best international example is the Internationale. The revolutionary song served as the source of the mass song, which became the leading genre of Soviet musical art.
The mass song developed especially actively in our country during the Civil War and during the Great Patriotic War. She absorbed the features of a folk song.
The song warmed the soldiers in the cold trenches. Raised to attack. As news from home, it gave love and hope.
Pop song reached great development in the twentieth century. It was performed by both soloists and vocal and instrumental ensembles. In the 60-70s, the chansonnier tradition was revived.
Songs are lyrical and hymn, solo and choral, with or without accompaniment, everyday and revolutionary … They differ in genres, forms of performance, in makeup. All songs are different. But they are united by the main thing: the soul of the people lives in the songs.
