Biography
Kazantsev Vladimir Gavrilovich was born in September 1903. The famous painter comes from a family of Old Believers, gold miners.
When the Old Believers began to persecute in Russia, the ancestors of Vladimir Gavrilovich, who once lived in the Moscow region, ended up in the Urals. The Kazantsev family moved to this region in 1723. Vladimir's grandfather successfully traded lard, was the head of the city of Yekaterinburg, a successful gold miner.
Then his son Gavrila increased his father's income, he was the owner of several gold mines.
A family with a solid income could provide the younger generation with a decent education. Therefore, Vladimir's brothers and he himself graduated from the local gymnasium, and then the future famous artist entered Moscow University.
Finding yourself
But the career of a painter did not immediately begin. First, Vladimir Kazantsev studied at the Faculty of Law. Then he worked as a forensic investigator in the city of Perm.
But soon the young man realized that the specialty of a lawyer did not suit him. Then in 1880 he entered the St. Petersburg Academy, where he studied landscape painting.
Artist's works
The work of Vladimir Gavrilovich stretched over two long decades, during which he managed to create many unique landscapes. In them, he captured the beauty of his native land, its harsh nature.
Coldness blows from winter landscapes. One of the early works of the painter "In the Urals", created by him in 1888, captured rocky hills covered with ice, a river along which reindeer herders' sleighs glide on a solid crust.
The artist continues to improve his skills. When he depicted on canvas an episode of a frosty winter morning on the Ural railway, he did it very realistically. The snow-covered trees are illuminated by the bright sun, which occurs in severe frosts. Steam locomotive smoke shows the direction of the wind. Warmly dressed people await the arrival of their train.
But there are also paintings in the artist's works that capture summer nature. The last days of this time of the year are depicted on the canvas "The End of Summer". Looking at this picture, you can find out what the weather was like in the 1880s, how the girls of that time from wealthy families dressed.
The artist traveled a lot, so he painted landscapes of different parts of the Urals. Somehow he was inspired by the episode he saw on the river. Kazantsev took an easel and began to reproduce a real picture on canvas. This work also gives an idea of what the village looked like, its inhabitants at the end of the 19th century.
Interestingly, part of the Kazantsevs' estate still stands today. Those who wish can admire one of the buildings with their own eyes or in a photograph.
