The popularity of hip-hop music, in particular rap and reggae, has skyrocketed over the past few years. The last such flash of attention to rap was recorded at the end of the last century.

It was in the 80s and 90s that such a concept as Russian rap was born. As soon as rap ceased to be exclusively American and black, the army of fans of the style was replenished with a huge number of recruits. True connoisseurs still preferred the origins, while the recruits of the hip-hop circle chose rap in a language they understood, not recognizing the leadership of the ghetto residents in the field of rhyming and writing quality music.

Protest music

Rap is a style born on the streets. This makes it more open and simple. Namely, the simplicity of the music and the comprehensibility of the texts attract young people. Young people, for the most part, are prone to war with the system, and no musical style covers this aspect better than rap.

Rappers live in their own world. And this is not bad, rather the opposite. Among true fans of hip-hop, the laws of honor are sacred, and aggression is welcomed only in battles in the form of rhymed lines. Unless the ancestors of rap - the inhabitants of poor areas of America, could afford to go from words to shots, but this way of solving problems outside the ghetto never came out, unlike rhythmic reading to a juicy beat.

Rap is fashionable

Not all rap fans follow the latest in hip-hop music because they understand the music of the streets. Around 2009-2010, an unspoken fashion for rap was born, which is especially noticeable in Russia and the CIS countries. Reading began to be heard more and more often from passing cars, on dance floors of clubs and even in performances of famous pop stars. And everything that is imposed on society sooner or later takes on the character of an epidemic.

There are a lot of young people who prefer rap to the same rock or punk, and it is these pseudo-judges that make up the lion's share of hip-hop fans. From the variety of rap, the army of pseudo-judges prefers the promoted stars, no matter how low-quality the music created by these promoted rappers is. This is where the popular belief that rappers listen to crazy music grows.

Young people easily agree to follow fashion, including music, hence the thousands of fans of popular rappers. Such "fans" in adulthood, and maybe even earlier, change their musical preferences from rap to something less street-like. There remain only those who were initially attracted to rap by the openness of the lyrics and juicy beats.
