Very often, Russian Jews want to prove their Jewishness, for which it is necessary to observe certain rules and fulfill the specified requirements. The hardest part is to find documentary evidence of your Jewish origin.

If you want to prove your Jewishness, keep in mind that it is determined by your mother. If your mother is Jewish, you are automatically considered Jewish. If your mother does not want to provide her personal information or is not sure what nationality she is, use the birth certificate (of your mother, grandmother or uncle and aunt) as proof.

Instructions

Step 1

If you have in your hands a copy of a birth certificate, for example, of your mother's brother, be sure to provide documentary evidence that there is indeed a family connection between the person indicated in the document and your mother.

If you cannot provide documentary or equivalent oral evidence that would confirm your mother's Jewish origin, then under the law of the Jewish people you cannot be considered a Jew.

Step 2

If you are sure that you are a Jew, and are fully prepared to comply with all the laws stipulated by the Jewish way of life, but cannot prove it in any way, go through a procedure called conversion. The giyur is conducted under the direction and direction of the rabbinical court. Ask the rabbi of the local synagogue where such a court is located.

Russian Jews who have not yet proven their true origin, when asked about their nationality, should in no case answer that they are Jews. They are considered non-Jews. In speaking of this, they may mention that they have reason to believe that they have Jewish ancestors, but they do not yet know for sure.

Step 3

In most cases, Jews in Russia have no reason to believe that his mother is indeed of Jewish origin. However, if you feel like a Jew inside, talk about it as follows: "I am a non-Jew, but I have always had and have the kindest relationship to all the people of Israel - the Jews."

Step 4

If you do find documents that confirm your mother's Jewish origin, be sure to check their authenticity in the rabbinical court. Jews are very strict about the fact of belonging to their people, so you better know for sure. Departure to Israel for permanent residence can in no way be connected with the court decision on your belonging to the Jewish people.
