Biography

Yakov Lazarevich Akim was born in the city of Galich in 1923. He had a younger brother and wonderful hospitable parents who loved music, books, songs and played different instruments. This creative family laid a sense of beauty in little Yakov.

When guests came to the Akims, old romances, folk songs and classical music sounded in the house. Yakov's mother played the mandolin, flute and guitar wonderfully. And he himself learned to play the button accordion. The whole family was very musical and creative. And they all very much supported each other in any endeavors and helped in difficult times.

In 1933, Akim's father was sent to work in Moscow, and they went to the capital with the whole family. Here the future poet studied in high school, and very successfully. In general, he did a lot, including he already wrote simple poems - the first, for children, but did not pay attention to it, not considering it serious.

Almost ten years passed in this way when the war broke out. Jacob was only seventeen years old, but after his father died during the bombing, he had to become the eldest in the family and take responsibility for his brother and mother. He sent them to Ulyanovsk, and himself went to the school of signalmen, and then went to the front.

Yakov Lazarevich fought all the long years of the war, and it was poetry that often saved him on the front line. He read by heart the poems of other poets, wrote his own poems … The war did not make him callous and cruel, did not embitter and could not take away his writing talent.

Creation

First, Yakov wrote "adult" poems, and then he realized that he was the best at making poems for children. Moreover, his daughter was born, and communication with the child brought the inspiration that the children's poet needs so much.

Akim's mentor in the literary field was Samuil Marshak - he often spoke positively about his work. And Yakov wrote both fairy tales and poems, but so wise and deep that adults read them with pleasure. He dedicated poetic lines to his friends, describing important events in their lives, and this was the best gift.

In addition to his literary gift, Akim had many talents: he perfectly translated foreign authors, played in amateur performances, sang and played the accordion magnificently. However, most of all goodness and light in this world was nevertheless brought by his poems. Children recognized themselves, the world around them, nature in them and read these lines with pleasure on the New Year tree and on other holidays.
