short biography
Yakov Fedotovich Pavlov was born in 1917 into a village family. He worked in agriculture as a teenager. The meeting of tractors manufactured in Stalingrad became a holiday for collective farmers. The mother was proud of her son, especially his soldier bearing.
Before the war, Y. Pavlov was drafted into the army, then sent to the guards regiment. He took part in the defense of Stalingrad. We needed information about a 4-storey building, which was of great tactical importance. The fighters, first under the command of Y. Pavlov, and then I. Afanasyev, held back the enemy for about two months.
Front notes
Ya. Pavlov wrote the book "In Stalingrad". In it, he recalls how the company commander sent them to reconnaissance of the four-story building, and then the soldiers stayed and defended it. The Germans did not even imagine that only 4 people were protecting the house. Help soon came. Not a single day, not a single night passed for the enemies to leave the house alone. Y. Pavlov admits that it was difficult to withstand the enormous tension of continuous battles if it were not for the great purpose and heroism of the perished. The house became a home for the soldiers, and they dreamed of how it would regain its former appearance after the war.
In the book, Y. Pavlov, with great enthusiasm, talks about the soldiers with whom he fought, about their interethnic unity. Glushchenko and Sabgaida often talked about their native Ukrainian steppes. The Abkhazian Sukba spoke with enthusiasm about the gardens of his collective farm. Tatarin Ramazanov and Uzbek Turgunov invited friends to their place. All the defenders of this house became sworn brothers. The author of the book calls them dear, wonderful people.
Postwar years
After the war, Y. Pavlov received a higher education. He worked as secretary of the district party committee, was a deputy three times. As a participant in the war, he often spoke to people.
In one of the interviews, the son of Y. Pavlov, Yuri, admits that it is difficult to be the son of a hero, and talks about the family. His studies were controlled mainly by his mother, who taught at the institute. My father worked at a factory. He was engaged in community service as a war veteran and as a member of the Peace Committee. Many letters came, and his mother helped him answer. My father often went to meetings with schoolchildren and soldiers. The son recalls that it was hard for his father at the performances, but he smiled. I was rarely sad.
He was not very fond of fishing and hunting, but he collected mushrooms with pleasure. He also liked to cook fish dishes. The family had the opportunity to move to Volgograd, but the father did not go because of the oppressive memories.
