A striking example of the fact that real princes can be found not only in fairy tales, but also in real life, is His Highness Prince Nicholas of Denmark. Sixth in the Danish succession to the throne, he does not spend time idle wondering if the time will come or not to try on the royal robes. Prince Nicholas strives to make a name for himself. And this is the number one dream in the wish list of a young man of royal blood, who is not yet 20 years old.
In the royal house of Denmark, the official duties of the prince are not assigned to Nicholas. The eldest grandson of the Danish Queen Margrethe II is actually released from strict obligations and appearing at protocol events, and therefore has no financial support from the crown, no lands, no titles. But the young man has numerous duties and taboos due to the crowned origin. And also - the status of a public person, constant attention from society and the press. Like all members of the Danish royal family, he is a person recognized everywhere and always discussed. But the most important thing today is that Prince Nicholas (the stress in the name is on the first syllable) is the owner of real wealth - youth! - with her inherent ambitions and desire to be the master of her own destiny.
Family is important
As the eldest son of Prince Joachim (Count of Monpez) and his first wife Alexandra (Countess of Fredensborg), Nicholas is Danish Queen Margrethe II's eldest grandson.
His Highness Prince Nicholas William Alexander Frederick of Denmark was born on 28 August 1999 in Copenhagen. The boy's baptism and confirmation ceremonies were performed in the palace church of Fredensborg.
When Nikolai was two years old, he had a brother, Prince Felix, with whom they are friends from an early age to this day. And two years later, his parents announced their separation. This was a reputational blow to the Danish monarchy. Still - the first divorce since 1846 in the circle of the heirs to the throne! Despite the fact that the reasons for the breakup were not named, Princess Alexandra immediately ceased to be the favorite of the people. She married her boyfriend and, having lost the title of princess, became Countess of Frederiksborg. However, the mother's second marriage did not last long, so the children did not have to get used to their stepfather. But the stepmother appeared in their life. In 2008, Prince Joachim introduced his sons to his new wife, Parisian Marie Cavalier. After a while, Nikolai and Felix had half-brothers and sisters - Prince Henrik Karl and Princess Athena.
After the divorce, the former spouses retained equal rights and obligations in relation to their common children - Nikolai and Felix. Despite the fact that the young princes stayed with their mother, they were recognized and remain full members of the royal house. The grandmother is supportive of them. The children of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie are friendly with Nikolai and Felix. The father quite often takes his sons to social events. The agreement on equal participation in the upbringing of princes is being sacredly fulfilled by the parents up to the present day.
In one of his interviews, Nikolai once said: “I had a special, one might say privileged, childhood - and I really appreciate it. I don’t know what it’s like to be someone else, not a member of the royal family.”
Prestigious education is a necessary attribute of the monarch
The modern prince is not a darling of fate from a fairy tale (I want ice cream, I want cake, I want candy). Even without fulfilling the duties of the heir to the throne, children and grandchildren in the royal family are obliged to live with an eye on their crowned origins. First of all, this concerns education.
Since 2004, Prince Nicholas has been studying at the Krebs School in Copenhagen. After the ninth grade, he continued his studies at one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Denmark, the closed boarding school Herlufsholm. The release took place in 2018. In addition to his academic success, the eldest son of Prince Joachim acquired the skills of independence: he lived in a hostel and, in his own words, only missed home and the usual food.
One of the traditions in the families of monarchs is the army training of princes. Nikolay became a cadet of the Hærens Sergentskole School of Reserve Officers of the Ground Forces at the Barracks of the city of Varda. At one time, Prince Joachim himself took a two-year course at this institution. However, before Nikolai received the rank of lieutenant in the reserve, the matter did not come. After several months of military training, the young man came to the conclusion that this was not what he would like to do in the future. At a family council in the royal house, it was decided: the prince will receive a university education in Copenhagen. Or, just like his father and uncle, he will go to study abroad.

And those who hastened to regard this as narcissism are wrong. For a young man, the modeling business has become, first of all, the first source of independent earnings, supporting him during his studies.
The fact is that, by the decision of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, for all her grandchildren (except for the heir of the first stage, Prince Christian), upon reaching the age of 18, maintenance payments made from the state treasury cease. At the same time, restrictions on the choice of a field of activity that exist among members of the royal family who receive apanage are removed from them. Thus, since August 2017, Nikolai has been paying for the last year of his studies and living in a closed gymnasium in Herlufsholm. Like most people of this age, Nikolai is a dreamy and cheerful guy, open and down-to-earth at the same time, relaxed and concentrated:

- musical preferences - deep house genre. The first album to listen to was Justin Timberlake's FutureSex / LoveSounds (2006). And my favorite song is a remix of the track Old Thing Back The Notorious BIG and Ja Rule, created by the Norwegian DJ Matoma.
Few public figures manage to avoid discussing the news of their personal life. As soon as the young man appeared in public with the red-haired girl, the media were full of reports that the heart of Prince Nicholas was occupied. His companion was Benedikt Thustrup, the daughter of a wealthy businessman, president of Sydbank, the largest credit institution in Denmark. The girl was born and raised in the city of Randers, now she is studying in Paris. And young people are familiar from their time at the Herlufsholm School.
According to reports from TV2 and SE & Hor, Prince Nicholas is currently working in investment and real estate. It is a Danish company owned by billionaire Mikael Goldschmidt (M Goldschmidt A / S. M. Goldschmidt Holding). The holding controls companies with a total of 1,350 employees and a total capital of over DKK 2 billion. He listens to the opinion of crowned relatives, discusses his intentions and plans with loved ones, defending and realizing the right to independence in actions and decisions. One thing is clear - this grandson of the Queen of Denmark is doing everything to become a bright and interesting personality.
