Biography

Volkov Leonid Mikhailovich was born in November 1980 in the family of a professor of the Ural State University and a teacher of the Ural State Pedagogical University. After studying at school, he applied to the USU for the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics and successfully graduated from it in 2002. Three years later, he graduated from graduate school and became a candidate of physical and mathematical sciences.

From the late nineties to 2010, he worked at SBK Kontur, the company specialized in the development of accounting software, management and business software. Having started his work as a trainee programmer, he quickly rose up and was appointed deputy general director of the company, and also served on the board of directors.

Political and public career

In 2009, Leonid joined the Solidarity social movement. This organization gathers around itself all concerned citizens who are not alien to the principles of democracy and freedom. In April 2010, Volkov organized a rally against the construction of another church in the city of Yekaterinburg, the event became the largest since the Soviet Union and gathered 3,500 residents of the city.

In June 2011, in collaboration with the Russian political scientist Fyodor Krashennikov, he published the book "Cloudy Democracy". It examines various modern tools and technologies and their possible application in a democratic field.

The next year Leonid organized the collection of donations for the construction of the “Cemetery of architectural monuments of the city of Yekaterinburg”. In August, he launched a program to organize elections for the coordination council of the Russian opposition. At the same time, he said that he was not ready for regular public speeches and did not want to be a politician himself. Instead, he became actively involved in organizing political and social events.

In 2015, Leonid Volkov turned out to be a defendant in a criminal case. One of the reporters of the notorious media outlet Lifenews filed a complaint with the police about causing harm. At first, an employee of the "yellow press" claimed that Volkov broke equipment during the scuffle, but later he began to claim that he also received physical injuries. The court did not consider the case taking into account the use of violence and sentenced Volkov under a softer article. As a result, he was fined thirty thousand rubles.

In the fall of 2018, Volkov was at Yale University, where he underwent a six-month training program.

Personal life

Leonid Volkov lives in Moscow with his wife Anna Biryukova. Leonid and Anna have a son, Mark, who was born in 2017. From his first marriage, he has a daughter and a son.
