Vera Chaplina is a famous writer who has created many works for children. She wrote about animals, her books are popular all over the world. The material was the observations that Chaplin conducted while working at the Moscow Zoo.
Biography
Vera Chaplina was born in Moscow, date of birth - 04.24.1908. Her family is hereditary noblemen, her father is a lawyer, her mother was educated at the conservatory. After the revolution, the girl was separated from her parents and placed in an orphanage in Tashkent.
Since childhood, Vera loved animals, she picked up chicks, homeless puppies, kittens, and nursed them. She hid her pets at night. If the teachers managed to find them, the girl was punished. Already in the orphanage, Vera decided to connect her life with animals.
Meanwhile, the mother was looking for her daughter, when she found Vera, took her to Moscow. While studying at school, the girl went to a biological circle led by P. Manteuffel (zoologist, writer). Vera loved to take care of animals, studied their habits.
At 25 liters. Chaplin was one of the innovators of the Moscow Zoo. In 1933. she created the young stock, which has become the hallmark of the zoo. Several cubs, tiger cubs, foxes, and bear cubs were on it at once. Children and adults enjoyed visiting the playground watching the animals. This place has become the most visited in the zoo.
V. Chaplina worked in the zoo for 30 years, was in charge of the section of predatory animals. For her work they were given a gratitude and a state award.
Creation
Over the years of her work at the Zoo, Chaplin has collected a huge amount of material that became the basis for her future works. She perfectly studied the habits of animals, made notes. The first stories by V. Chaplina were published in the magazine "Young Naturalist". Then she was offered to write a book about the young animals' playground, called "Kids from the Green Site" (1935).
The second book - "My pupils" (1937), which traced the individual style of the author, became the fundamental one. Chaplin became famous, they wrote about her in newspapers and magazines. In 1939. London publishing house signed a contract with the writer to publish a collection of animals. V. Chaplina took part in the first studio recording of the Moscow TV Center, which took place in 1938.
When the war began, the zoo was evacuated to the Urals. Chaplin proved to be an excellent organizer, in 1942. she became deputy director. In 1943. she was transferred back to Moscow, having been appointed director of the enterprises of the Moscow Zoo. The workers put a lot of effort into making the animals survive.
In 1946. Chaplin left her job at the zoo and took up literary work. In 1947. her new collection "Four-legged friends" was released. In 1950. she entered the Writers' Union.
In the fifties, Chaplin and Georgy Skrebitsky created scripts for the cartoons "In the forest thicket", "Forest travelers". After a joint trip to Belovezhskaya Pushcha, they wrote a collection of essays. The authors also created small works for the Murzilka magazine. Late period books: "Accidental Encounters", "Shepherd's Friend".
Chaplina's works were published in many countries. Books published in the 30s are regularly reprinted. The writer died in 1994. There is a library named after Chaplina in Omsk.
