The term "information society" has become widespread relatively recently - in the last third of the twentieth century. This is a sociological and futurological concept that considers the main factor of social development not to a material product, but to information and scientific and technical knowledge.
Instructions
Step 1
The main supporters of the concept of the information society were such American thinkers as J. Bell, A. Toffler and Z. Brzezinski. Considering the development of civilization as a successive "change of stages", they believed that the information society is the last stage of human development following the industrial society. At this stage, capital and labor, which formed the basis of industrial society, gradually give way to information. Representatives of the “information society” concept associate its development with the predominance of the “quaternary” information sector in the world economy, which is being formed after agriculture, industry and the economy of services.
Step 2
According to representatives of this paradigm, the technological revolution of the late twentieth century, universal computerization and informatization of society created a completely new social situation, in which radical changes took place not only in public consciousness and mass culture, but also in the socio-economic structure itself. In particular, the significant intellectualization of the economy led to the erosion of the traditional, formerly monolithic, class of industrial workers; a radical change in the role of a person directly involved in production took place. In a modern developed society, labor associated with the receipt and processing of information has become the predominant labor in the service market.
Step 3
The main distinguishing features of the information society are:
- a sharp increase in the role of information and professional and technical knowledge in the life of all social groups;
- a significant increase in the share of information products and services in the domestic market;
- the emergence of a global global information space, uniting people on a planetary scale and providing them with access to world information resources;
- effective implementation of society's needs for information services and products.
