Sherlock Holmes is the most popular movie hero according to the Guinness Book of Records. His image was embodied on the television screen and in the theater by hundreds of actors, and each made him unique in his own way. What is not in the books of Arthur Conan Doyle, but firmly rooted in our minds about this famous detective?
- The most famous phrase "Elementary, Watson" literary Holmes never said. The word "elementary" is used only in one of Conan Doyle's stories (the story "The Hunchback"). But William Gillette in 1899 on the stage of the theater, playing the famous detective, used it. Later she appears in films and is finally assigned to the image of Sherlock Holmes.

Holmes also did not wear the famous hat with two peaks, which is called a diastalker (or diastalker). And that would be bad form, because it is only for hunting deer (two visors to protect the face and neck from the sun). She appeared on Sherlock thanks to illustrator Sidney Paget for the story "The Boscombe Valley Mystery."

Curved tube. Sherlock Holmes, of course, smoked and even injected cocaine. And the whole collection of pipes was also: "This case is for three pipes." Only this collection was not curved. We owe her again to William Gillett, so that his face was better visible to the viewer and not obscured by the tube, he took a curved one. In the conscientious film adaptation, we can also admire such a pipe from Vasily Livanov.

But on the other hand, the literary Sherlock Holmes played the violin as if he used a magnifying glass, was tall and wore an Ulster cloak. Conan Doyle settled him at 221B Baker Street, but there was no such house in the 19th century, so mankind also gave the detective's image a dwelling, that is, a house-museum. It was founded in 1990, although before that letters were sent to the address 221B addressed to the most famous, albeit invented, detective in history.
